I know this question has been asked before but there are many new releases... so here goes
I'm looking for a DVD with a lot of material on it. I would prefer it to have an actual uncut performance imbedded as well. I find I learn so much more and what better than to emulate a solid magician? The closest thing I own to what I describe is Card Stunts by Gregory Wilson. I know Pyrotechnic Pasteboards is similar so its on top of my list to get #2 is Green Magic Vol.1 with his whole FISM act. I hear its a whole two hours long! Any more suggestions? Thanks guys |

Steve Reynolds "Under The Rasar" is pretty good too. Lots of good material, as well as a good description of the Zarrow Shuffle.

I second Mattisdx's Lennart Green nod. It has his FISM routine and then the explanation of around 25 sleights that he uses in it. His work on the lateral palm is great!

Get Johnny Thompson's "Classic of Magic" v.1-4. You get a history lesson, entertainment, a catalog of modern close up magic and video evidence of a black gentleman turning white all rolled into one.
Afterwards, go buy a "Stars of Magic" for a portable version of the above video.
One time, when I was young, I botched a sleight so bad, Vernon, Marlo & Miller rolled over in their graves. But I didn't see Elmsley, probably because he was behind the others.

For cards... For good performance material...
Jimmy Cards Lecture on. It has some great card effects including his cull that I have been using for many years. Bill Malone on the loose. Need I say more about them. Dan Fleshman's new DVD's great - tested performance material... And for insperation the Ross bertram taps or if they have the DVD on it I would get them... I hope this helps...

I don't think anyone has reccomended this yet, so I will -
The Easy to Master Card Magic series by Ammar is one of the best value for money series that I've come accross. On each tape, there are effects and routines which I have taken, and used in real-world performances. I've never bought any of those tapes and felt dis-satisfied with the quantity (nor the quality) of the material on them. Ignore anyone who tries to tell you that ETMCM is a 'soft option' or strictly begginers only. Those sort of people think they know more than they do, and don't like to see other people advancing in the art, or acctually going out and doing real-world performances. RandomDan |

Thanks for all the suggestions. Phew it'll take me awhile to sift through all of these!
I have all the Foolers Doolers (they're nice enough, but aren't really card DVDs - which is what I'm looking for) as for ETMCM, hmm.. well the performances are cut into too many parts I think. And a few too many tricks rely on a heavy setup. However the tricks taught are true classics and usually play quite well with the audience. I have a question on Aldo. Isn't he more a mentalist than anything? I personally really like Osterlind (esp. his stack) but if I get those DVDs I don't think I'll be a "magician" anymore Kjellstrom, although Lavand is an excellent magician don't you find him to be a little "long winded". I think he sounds like my grandapa. I'm one of the younger generations ;-) Well the main reason I posted here was to get some "card work" down with reasonably impromptu material. So I can say entertain for 30 minutes straight without breaking a sweat. I would say I'm about intermediate level w/ cards. My updated to get list, includes enough of the tricks (david regal) Thanks all! |

The majority of his stuff is easy to perform because he structures it that way. “THIS IS HOW A I DO THIS MOVE… YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO IT LIKE THAT IF YOU DON’T WANT TO… BUT THIS IS HOW I DO IT!” I still highly recommend Lasting Impressions even if you don’t use one thing on those tapes it makes for terrific entertainment value. If card magic is what your after I highly recommend the Doc Eason DVD’s, 1&2 have the most card magic but do not discount volume 3. IMHO all are worth it.
