I'v had a blast learning from David Acer, and his "On Screen and Other Mysteries" DVD. Many original and clever routines, especially his On screen card trick.

Yeah David Acer's dvd is really good and funny..lots of original, interesting ideas. However, his on screen card trick is only workable if you're from a western context I guess cause the channels they flash when switching are intrinsic to those countries.

I used to hope that you worked for superhandz because of the amount of advertising you do for them and all the @-- kissing you do to them...Now I hope that you "dont" work for them because you are doing them more harm than good when you post in these forums....

Here are a few that comes to mind:
The Richard Sanders Show - it has a lot of great material, albeit with no performances in front of an audience. Classic Magic of Larry Jennings - There are several extremely visual pieces of card magic on this DVD, in my humble opinion (terrible spectator though). On the Spot - Gregory Wilson On the Loose - by Bill Malone Brainstorm - John Guastaferro Bar Magic - Doc Eason Commercial Magic vol. 1 - J. C. Wagner |

Lance Delong is putting out a video soon. From what I have seen him do, I am sure gonna get this one! He does this card trick and then four coins come out of nowhere!

The first thing you want to ask yourself is what are you looking for? Do you want to just learn effects? Cards (Jeff McBride and someone not mentioned before Alan Ackerman- I have the entire set on VHS, but have not been able to handle the cards like he can.); Coins (Michael Amar - he has many brilliant videos); Routines (My personal favorite Doc Eason's Bar Magic). Make sure that you have a good DVD player that you can get to play in slow motion.

I too just got done watching this DVD and I just had to sit back in amazed silence as I contemplated what I had just seen. (I watched this DVD twice in a single sitting--that's how good this is.) All of the material is good (stuff that David has tested, revised and used in his act for many many years). However, three of the routines (yes, they are really routines) each are worth the price of the DVD. Namely: "Cocktail Dazzler" Where David tightly integrates the finding of three spectato's freely selected cards, an ambitious card routine with one of the spectator's selection, a 3-card monte effect where the three spectators cannot follow the black ace and finally the revelation where the originally chosen three spectators' cards replace the 3 aces used in the 3-card mopnte effect and make their magical appearance--thus bringing this tight routine full circle and to an appropriate close. "Funner Color Stunner" Where David combines an in-the-hand Triumph effect with a color changing deck finale. David weaves this routine around a very enjoyable story about "The Professor" and how a young punk tried to trip up The Professor by screwing up the deck, etc. The routine utilizes only an ordinary deck of cards and ONE card with contrasting back. The one card can be rung in and out of the deck at will and the handling is soooo natural that the "setup" will never be suspected. "Liar's Poker" This is just one effect but it is woven around a story so tightly that it becomes a very enjoyable routine that involves 5 audienc members. Lots of comedy by-play and the handling is nothing short of genius. After the five cards are "freely selected", nothing but the 5 cards (and 5 $20.00 bills) is used. No gimmickes, No add-ons. No switches. Nothing but the 5 cards and the 5 bills and all may be examined at the end. David also discuss a number of different alternate revelations for the ending. In addition, to these 3 gems, David also goes into an extensive discussion about his famous "Striking Vanish" and he shows the proper "mechanics", shows some "dos" and "don'ts" and he gives some other ideas for applying the striking vanish to other objects. Throughout the DVD, David is discussing alternate mehodologies and why he ended up choosing the ones he ended up using over those discarded other methods. David also discusses misdirection and he is constantly tearing these effects/routines down to their basic components and analyzing the effects at there core levels. This analitical discussion is, itself, worth the price of the DVD as you get a brief glimpse into the working of the genius mind of David Williamson and what makes magic "work". IMHO, this is a "must have" video. Mike

Another offering from Green that has really been very impressive and easy material to perform is 'Green Light'. There are only six routines but each one could be a reputation maker in the right hands. Lennart is very entertaining as usual on this DVD in the performance secion.
