I didn't post this here before, so I guess I shoulda...
I'm new here... I'm also new to magic, but have picked up a bunch of stuff from PenguinMagic, and a couple things elsewhere... I'm hoping I can do this stuff well, because I have rheumaotid arthritis, so I don't have very good dexterity (slight of hand isn't so easy). But little by little I'm able to do more & more so who knows... Right now I'm having difficulty trying to do the trick where you make a card disappear in your hand, then make it reappear... I'm don't think I will be sucessful in learning executing this one though... At any rate, if you want to know any more about me, visit my homepage: http://www.torgo.org/ |

Hi Bobby!
Tell you what squire - learning magic will definitely get your hands moving. I don't know too much about it, but David Copperfield used to tour kids hospitals with Project Magic where they would learn digital dexterity which, plus many other benefits, helped some with pysiotherapy exercises. Keep it up. Forget the card vanishing! Try rolling a coin along your knuckles - that way you'll have an impressive skill to show people, instead of them seeing 'how it's done'!

Welcome, Bobby.
We all just do the best we can with what we have, right? Performing sleights is certainly a tall order for someone with RA, but working your hands regularly may actually help keep them as limber as possible for as long as possible. I wish you the very best in your magical endeavors! |

The more you use them, the longer they will last (with exceptions of corse)... My hands are actually not too bad over all, mainly due to the fact that I still type a ton on a daily basis (on my personal computer, and as a programmer at work). I can't fully close my fists, and I don't think anything (other than surgery) is likely to change that... I just hope practacing magic will help improve my dexterity, so I can get better control over moving my hands in general. With a little luck I may end up with more control over my hands than I've had in a long time... But again, time will tell... |
