Just saw Jay's lecture last night -- UNBELIEVABLE! One thing to see him on your computer screen, another to see him work a room with his magic, humor, etc....
If he's coming anywhere near you to lecture, DON"T MISS IT! (hey, and all the stuff he was selling was deeply discounted -- can't beat that either!) |

Piglet-
In reponse to your question, most tricks cannot be performed on the spot and require some sort of set-up. I'm going to have to say that I did not enjoy these DVDs very much. They are good, but are way overhyped. First, most of the effects require quite a bit of set-up and are not as astonishing as some make it out to be. I also found it misleading that it said that "Assault With a Deadly Weapon" can be accomplished with a barrowed salt-shaker, which isn't the case. Second, I'm dissapointed with the gags on this DVD because it seemed like they were used as "filler" when they could have been used for more techniques/effects. Finally, this is far from what it claims to be which is "Revolutionary." The material is geared towards the beginner/intermediate and seemed to simply offer rehashed effects/techniques from previous books and dvds. The one thing which I did enjoy is how well he covered the pass and Paper Cut. Again, I did not completely hate this DVD, but I feel it is average at most when compared to other card resources in the market. Joe |

Hey guys
jay is sensational. I love his work. he creates direct effects which if performed correctly, produce awesome results. I have seen many of his dvds. the effects created are each unique in their premise and cool. I perform some of his material. it suits my style and character. THANK YOU FOR THE REVIEW!!! I'm looking forward to adding rev card magic to my collection. I also enjoy the fact that he gives excellent advice on his dvds. we are indeed fortunate to have him. personally, the trick is only 1 aspect in creating wonder and astonishment for the audience. look at the effect from the point of the spectator and judge its value there. I suggest that if some1 hasn't yet got a sankey dvd, you do yourself a favour and get 1. its definately an education. if you are serious in magic I suggest that you first begin with his book "Beyond Secrets". its an essential piece of reading for the magic lover!!! |

Agree with some of the posts above that Jay does rehash some previously sold material, but tends to be done with new presentation approaches (e.g., paper clipped) or applying a slight he used/taught in the past for a whole new routine. While some of the routines need some set up, others are totally imprompto. If you tend to like Jay's material, you'll definitely get your money's worth.
As an off topic side note, Jay did several routines from his Blows to the Head mentalism DVD at the recent lecture, and would definitely recommend checking them out... (in particular, I feel his "Memory Lapse" effect is worth the price of the DVD by itself....) |

Heltler Skelter is one of my favorites from this DVD. It's kinda like triumph, w/o having a card selected, and it's really funny. Easy to perform, (although I've simplified the first move) and the people I've shown it to love it.

I have now viewed Sanky's Revolutionary Card Magic DVD. Here it is: IT IS HORRIBLE!! Perhaps the worst coolection of card magic on the planet. It STINKS! Do you understand? It' STINKS!
The DVD that etache sthe sleights is prtty good. he covers then in great detail. Nice explanation on the pass he uses. But, the card Magic is HORRIBLE!!!!

I received got my copy yesterdya and was pretty dissapointed. It does not compare in any way to Rev Coin Magic. It more so a collection of new routines, most of which are really not practical and lots of which are based on teh same moves. If you want a Sankey vid, I suggest Front Row Sankey. It is awesome and all of the effects on it are real workers...it is really cool to see teh reaction of the audience as well. Much more powerful stuff than what's on Rev Card Magic, which has a very misleading title.

I've always been disappointed by sankey...nothing to expect from him anymore. I've got plenty of his dvds so far, most stuff is just for beginners, you can rarely see anything innovative. how can he be considered a good magician?

I saw Jay lecture in Columbus,Ohio in November last year,Some guys cell phone went off and the man started talking and finaly left the room,Jay gave him the bird as he walked away.(THAT) IMO-was the most entertaining aspect of the lecture. Not the most magical. But trite and beautifull!

We're all human and make mistakes. As far as his Card magid DVD set goes, it's not the the best magic he's put out.
