That one gets pushed in and we're in business.

Sounds like the "push in change" to me Smile

If they insist on pushing it in themselves, place it part way yourself and put pressure on the upper right portion of the deck with your left fingers which pivots the card slightly out to the right of the deck. Put a small corner crimp in the card as you raise the deck up once more for the spectator to "take one last look to remember the name of the card" and then let them push it in and mix themselves.

Actually,
Ninja was right. The most direct solution to this problem is by learning the Erdnase Diagonal Palm Shift. If one were to read the full description they would find this; "...allow the spectator to insert the selected card in outer end of the deck...". With your thumb pressing down in back they can only get the card in so far. Finish up the squaring process for them and as you hand them the deck, the card is shifted out. It really is just about the most direct method out there.

You could let them dictate absolutely everything, even do the shuffling, and then end calmly and successfully with an Invisible Deck or Brainwave Deck.

(You DID remember to bring along an Invisible Deck or Brainwave Deck as an out, right?)

re;
"Can I put it anywhere I want?"

I think I've used that line myself.

But you could answer, "Sure, take the deck and shuffle them too, while I just look in my copy of "Outs Precautions and Challenges" by Hopkins".

Actually if they thrust the card in anywhere and you are holding the deck tight, it will either not go in flush or go further in, in which case the deck can be reversed with a fan and the plunger principle will leave the card projecting from the back as you straighten the cards.

If the guy is using a lot of pressure he would probably crimp the card for you anyway.

The odd person like this helps keep you on the ball. I don't mind at all as long as I'm not on a tight schedule Smile

I's sure "outs" and situations like this were discussed in an earlier thread.

Paul.
