I just came up with a display that accomplishes the same thing as the Jordan count, but has a different handling. The cards start and end in the same positions in the stack, but they're initially held in Biddle grip. Briefly (and hopefully without giving too much away) the pull-off sequence goes: single, single with break, double with Braue add-on-type retake, single.

I assume this has been thought of before. Does anyone know where, what it's called, who came up with it, etc? I like it better than the Jordan, and if there's work on it already out there I'd like to check it out.

Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

It is open to some speculation what the Jordan technique originally was.

What you are describing is one of the many "K.B. Move" handlings, in the manuscript of the same name.
