Actually, "Ultra Cervon" is a two-tape set (Volume ‘s I & 2 of course!). On them Bruce teaches the routines that he performs regularly. Each volume of Ultra Cervon offers six routines and some various techniques and subtleties.
On Volume one you will find “Warped II” – His handling of the card warp using a bill rather than a second card. This is the only method I use! I have performed his method as an impromptu effect using a borrowed deck and a borrowed bill (yes I destroy a card!). He also covers “The Red Backed Aces” - An exceptionally good four-ace routine; “A Matter of Psychology” - Cards rise, reverse and change places; “Hanky Panky”- A fully routined burnt and restored handkerchief, again, one of items that I tend to use; “To Pay The Price” - A comedy interactive poker demo; and the “BC Cards Across” – a routine so strong that Bruce recommends it as a closer to your act. And that is volume one! Volume two has “The Joker Trick & Four Dollar Confusion” - Four cards change to jokers, then aces, and then turn face down one at a time; “Floating Aces” - The aces move through the deck; “Silent Flight “- A miraculous "Ring Flight" routine and the only reel based ring flight I will perform; his “Cut and Restored Rope Routine” - A fast-paced and baffling routine; and “All Backs” and “Repeat Aces to Pocket”. Is it for everyone? No! I hope not! I think that there is some very strong material both using cards and using other props. I do use some of the stuff on this tape and think it worthwhile. Compare it to Daryl? Apples and Bananas! Beginner stuff? Well, it is taught well enough that a beginner with dedication and practice could master and perform it. Best part for a beginner is the non-card stuff. Bruce gives you something to flesh out an act with. Personally I don’t see a dozen card tricks as an act! I don’t care if you are Harry Lorayne, Ed Marlo, Bill Malone or someone in their league; I walk out after the third four ace trick or after the second pick-a-card trick! But that is just me!

I've never seen the "ultra-cervon" tapes, but I will say the book is excellent! Really no weak material at all and it's well written.
Highly recommended. Oh yeah, I'll also recommend John Bannons "impossibilia" and "smoke and mirror" tapes. Lots of good card magic on both of those. You won't be disappointed.

Gregory Wilson's "Card Stunts" bears a characteristic missing from so many videos: a legitimate live performance.
What passes for the demonstration sections of many videos are really tried and true recycled spectators, whose supersonic screams and viceral reactions are shamefully contrived. Funny, how a tape predicated on convincing a spectator that an effect is real cannot provide spectators that seem that way. Greg's performance is stellar, funny, and taped in the close-up room at the Magic Castle. (granted, a mix of magicians and laymen), and is a complete act, without edits. It is recorded in real-time, and demonstrates just how it is possible to carry a room for thirty-five minutes with just a couple decks of cards. This tape was really an inspirational flash-point for me--and Greg's handling of "reset" is for me the most logical and devoid of tortured handling. This is, so far the only tape I stedfastly refuse to sell off. Perhaps it means too much to me personally to be objective, but others have already testified prior to my post. Can I get a witness? I recently got David Regal's 3 DVD set. While it was all very good, I must say I prefered the third one as that uses no gimicked decks, just relatively easy sleights.
I also have the McBride series. As Cole says they are pretty exclusively flourishes which can be very useful to maintain an otherworldly aura to your show if that's your style. Hope that helps John |

I am surprised no one has mentioned the Juan Tamariz Lessons In Magic 3-tape set: absolute killer, technically easy to moderate card work. Also, the Rene Levand tapes from Joe Stevens are poetry. Meir Yedid has a new two-tape/cd Levand set which has nearly his complete act.

I want a video that's worth the price and can show me things that will blow the toughest adult away. In my opinion, the answer would be: - Ammar's easy to Master Card Miracles(any Volume) - McBride's Card Manipulations - Greg Wilson's Card Stunts By this I mean that you can buy any, and be happy with it. It's kind of liking pie and ice cream, and having to decide. You can have any, and later you'll have the other, but there's no bad choice. |

Let's not forget about Bill Malone's "On the Loose" series. Technically, his material isn't too difficult, and his method of presentation is hilarious. Volume 1 is well worth it, Sam the Bellhop is a great effect in itself, always a crowd pleaser.

This tape inspires me when putting together material to remember that a card act should flow very well as his does, as well as provide well timed humor (not necessary but helps for me). I'll keep the list simple: Card Stunts by Gregory Wilson On the Loose series by Bill Malone Lessons in Magic By Juan Tamariz Doc Eason's Bar Magic Series - Volume 1 is very good at pointing out how long you can go with just card magic and still have everyone on the edge of their seats. |

For sheer entertainment and the variety of stuff to learn I'd recommend Derren Brown's "The Devil's Picturebook".

If you are afraid you don't master the sleights needed in the tapes by Ammar, why not learn them first? Don't expect him to teach you every single thing he does, you need some knowledge I think.
I've never seen the tapes though, so maybe I'm wrong.

I'd recommend Martin Nash's 6-volume set called 'Master Card Magician'. While many of his effects are technically demanding and will require practice, practice, practice, they will blow the socks off of your spectators, be they laypersons or magicians. On a side note, if you order $200 or more of products from L&L Publishing, you will get Jay Sankey's 'The Very Best Of' 3-VHS set for free. If you do decide to order the 6-video set, you'll be well over half-way to the free vids! Enjoy...
