I'd be curious to hear some discussion on how each performer attacks the 'jazzin' concept with a memorized deck with a named card?

The first card named I estimate and do a top shot to produce it.
The second card I do a color change with (the color change is usually different depending on where I cut it to. The third card I do Simon Aronson's Two Beginnings. The last Card I either do Triumph or Simon Aronson's Invisible Card. (depends on the interest of the crowd, and how deep the named card is). A lot of this is very circumstantial. If a named card is within spelling reach, I will spell to the card. If it is right on top or bottom (or at least close) I will usually reveal cards differently. |

Instead of doing David Harkey's and Eric Andersen's OutSmart (from AH-HA!) as it's written in the book, I just memorized the necessary part. I've used this brand of "jazzin" to raise the eyebrows of many knowledgable magicians.

I Resurrected this thread to remind the memdeck workers that I have a full article on this topic on my website. (See link below.) Just go into the memorized deck area from the link at the top of the home page and look for the article "Preconceived Jazzin with the Aronson Stack." With the system outlined at the end of the article, you can count or spell to ANY card they name from home position without having to cut the deck at all. It will take some work to memorize the full system, but I believe you will find the rewards to be worth the effort. Even if you don't want to learn the full system, there are lots of tips, hints, and suggestions on Jazzin with a memdeck.
I'll point out one thing that a lot of folks that skim the article miss. I suggest spelling "Dennis," "Den," or "Denny." That's what I use, of course, but you should interpret that as spelling ANY six letter, three letter, of five letter name. Perhaps that will work for your name, but if not, you can use the names of any of the spectators. So, before you launch into this, get and remember the names of your spectators for later use. For the five letter name, you can always spell Magic of course. Dennis Loomis

I think Mnemonicosis is a good effect to start with for jazzing with a Mem Deck.

Mnemonica page 170-171 gives a great routine with a Tamariz's stack that ends in NDO. You can't beat that.

B. Tudor, Jazzing = Improvising. As in Jazz improvisation.
Magic is a vanishing art.
