Hi, I'm Jason. I've always loved magic as a spectator. As a kid, I read magic books and I would try to do some tricks.
While I was in New Orleans, on my honeymoon this past August, my interest in magic was rekindled. I've been reading Bobo and trying to learn coin sleights. I haven't gotten very far. I'm still practicing the different palms. I'm still pretty poor at the Classic Palm but I'm getting better. |

Thanks. I checked out your website. Those videos are impressive I love coins, but my wife loves card magic. I think I'm going to pick up a copy of Royal Road to Card Magic as my next book. It appears to be the consensus for beginning card magic.

Royal Road to Card Magic is an excellent book to start with. It will teach you the basics of card magic. Modern Coin Magic and Royal Road to Card Magic are probably the two best books to learn the basics. I would also recommend The Amateur Magicians Handbook by Henry Hay, and Tarbell Course in Magic.
The latter is a series of books, printed nearly a century ago, but still considered some of the great books of magic. Most of the card material in Tarbell is outdated, unlike Royal Road to Card Magic, but it is great for learning magic with rope, napkins, sponge balls, paper, etc. You can buy 6 of the books for only $40 at http://www.lybrary.com/. Thanks for the compliment on my videos. By the way, I will be adding an article on my website with tips for the classic palm and thumb palm, that aren’t in Modern Coin Magic. I’ll Private Message you when it is up. Shane Wiker |

If you are a real coin worker, I forgot to tell you, there is a section here that talks all about coins. I myslef too is having a hard time with coins. Dealing with it is different with cards.
Everybody can do coin sleights but only a handful can really make it look good. I hope you learn a lot from the Café. Have a great time.. |

I spent five years in Pensacola at PCC. I never found a magic shop there- Where is it? Also are you braced for another round of hurricanes?
Welcome to the Café. |

Thanks dynamite assassin. I see you are at Atsugi. I work out at Saufley Field just North of NAS Pensacola. I work for NETPDTC.
Scruffy, I haven't found a shop here in Pensacola, yet. I guess I'm ready for the hurricane. I might need to make another trip to the grocery. The weather report says the hurricane won't be here until Monday at the earliest. It looks like its going to hit the east coast on Saturday and they are under evacuation right now. Jason |

Jason,
Welcome aboard The Magic Café. While you are escaping the weather, I'm inviting you to the IBM Ring 35 meeting Tuesday September 5th at the Homewood Library (Birmingham, AL). If you would like to perform, the theme at that meeting is "my best opener (opening trick) or my best closer". There are usually about twenty of us there. PM me for details. Enjoy! Bob Magic By Sander PS I speak Bobo! I used to live in Arkansas while he was living. |
