Years ago I used them for Gospel Magic. Somewhere in my things I have a Gospel patter routine for them. If no one else posts a reply about using them, I will do a search for mine. PM if you wish.

You could use it to talk about the Holy Trinity (Tri-unity). Ask the kids how many gods we believe in and they shout back "One!" Good Job! Then tell them that we believe in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Wait. Isn't that three Gods? But we believe in one, right? Actually, those three 'gods' we believe in come together to make a really great God!
'Tie the ropes together' and display the three tied ropes. Tell the kids that this is how all of the pieces come together. But, wait! There's knots holding the pieces together! God doesn't have any knots--he's just one great big being. Tug on the ends of the rope and let the knots pop off, showing one tri-colored rope. I've never tried it, but I think it could work well. This is partly inspired by Duane Laflin's thrre-rope Trinity routine. Good Luck, Andy |

Although I like the trinity effect, I do a number of trinity effects already and am alwys concerned with trivializing the concept, so I might try something like the "Unity of Believers" I am thinking outloud here, which is not always a good thing for me, but here goes....
Jesus even prayed, (paraphrased..) Father, make them one, as you and I are one! NOW THAT is unity. And since Jesus and The Father and the Spirit are one, we can be one in Christ with fellow believers of all colors. Show the knotted rope. But does that mean that we lose our individuality, or that we are artificially held together. And come to think of it, these knots kind of remind me of conflict over our differences. But Jesus didn't say make them all alike, he said make them one. And strip off the knots. Now we are one with fellow believers, each still unique, but together as one. Show the the one rope with three different color sections. Sorry for the ramble on this one. But I need to run off to a meeting and didn't have much time to think on it. I saw the patriotic ropes done last week at a magic shop, and didn't much like it, but now maybe I can see a reason to have at it. BroDavid

BroDavid,
Thanks for sharing how you use the ropes for the "Unity of the Believers". That is something I had never thought of using them for. What a great idea. Blessings! John The Gospel Magic Man |
