I got my doves at six weeks old.(The time it take to ween from their parents) And started to handle and train immediately. I didn't do my first show with them for three months. They performed perfectly and every show since. They seem to like the shows and all the goings-on. That's my experience so far. Flutter to greatness... L.B.

There is no real reason not to put young doves into the act as soon as they are fully feathered. (Make sure you check under the wings.)

The major safety problem is inverting them. Doves less than a year old will drown very easily through regurgitation.

As always, the greatest danger to doves is from outside. They have to be protected from other animals (including mice).
