Hi Everyone,

Would be forever grateful if someone can help me with this question. I was wondering if the mikame cage would fit a parakeet (Budgie). Looks a bit small in the photos IMO.

Many thanks,

Xavier.

Ditto.
I have it and a canary fits very well in there.

Maps,

Do you use a canary for any acts?

No. Canaries are just too expensive here. A parakeet fits in perfect and they are about the same size.

Thanks Maps....canaries are pretty expensive here also, I have one already.
It is always in the back of my mind to use him.
I'd have to clip his feathers though and he is part of the finch family which are very high strung.

Canaries are very "delicate" and more suseptible to catching colds which turn into pneumonia after they are exposed to drafts. Budgies are more "hardy".

Budgies are more hardy than canaries but that isn't saying a lot compared to doves, ducks, geese and chickens. In the 80's we commercially raised budgies buy the hundreds for the nation's largest wholesaler. They are not good travelers compared to the other birds magicians use. Frankly, I would rate them below goldfish as road-worthy survivers.

Lucy and I keep goldfish in our horse watering tanks and just catch out what is needed for a show and dump them back afterwards. The horse watering tanks are outdoors year-round. (Yes, our dogs and horses drink from them too!)
