Hi, I'm new to this effect, and do not want to spend too much money on it yet..Was considering purchasing the vernet ones but, was wondering since walnut is easily available why use plastic?? is it because it is somehow gimmicked(shaped in a different way)or certain parts need to be heavier... can smeone give me any advice as to how to make one myself??? I already know how to make the peas through Charlie Frye's new video... thank you

Hi Jim (or should I just call you freak?)

Take a look around the Café. There has been just about everything there is to be said about shells, the different kinds, how to make your own, etc...

Bish the Magish has indexed a major portion of them into one message that makes it easy to find the answers you seek. Just click here

I'm curious why you went with the copper set, Glenn?
I almost purchased a copper set the other day at Denny & Lee's store in Baltimore. I handled them and came close to getting them but I went with the La Maggiore set instead. I guess just for the natural look and I liked the way they felt.

I am a total beginner to this effect and these are my first set of shells.

I will be playing around with them for a long time, I am sure.

I got a copper set because I like the look and I like the weight of the shells. The look of the shells has a rich look to them.

I have been doing the shells since I was about nine years old. I have video of me doing it at my web site taped in 1975 on a TV show.

This look of the copper shells to me looks like a rich look in the way of props. It looks great on TV camera. I got these shells FOR the video I did for DVD-2...

I have used a lot of shell game sets and I use a sponge pea. With a sponge pea on a close up mat all sets work the same.

But I like the weight of the copper shells and the look of the copper shells I got two sets. One to use and one for a back up. Because the shells are one of my trademark effects.

I hope this helps...
