I have been searching on the internet at many of the most popular magic shops and even did a search here too.
I am trying to find a breakaway table. Does anyone know where they sell these? Thanks

Do you mean the table that you pick up and the legs fall of then two wooden female legs drop down?

Yes that would work but what I had in mind was a table that would fall over seconds after setting something down and walking away as a comedy bit.
I guess it could be rigged to trip with some black string. I found a tipping top which attaches to a tripod that may work too.

It's not a table, but have you seen the remote-controlled closing chair (click here)? Possibly it would meet your needs (place something on the chair instead of a table)?

Thanks for idea Larry. I like the idea of a ghost chair to go along with a table. It sure is pricey though at $800+.

Daniel,
I've seen one first hand and it works extremely well, particularly on a hard surface (versus on carpet). I agree with you, though, that it's pricey (I wouldn't pay that much for the effect). Larry |

Hi Donald,
Thanks for the tip. That is the same table top I was talking about. I think I may go with that one but I know I have seen a 4 legged table where the legs fall apart on it.

Derek Lever used to make a table that you could pick up and everything was OK but when the helper picks it up it all breaks apart into 11 pieces. It was designed by the late Lack Hughs's son in law...wonderful and from TAURUS MAGIC SUPPLIES.
Maxello Magic has one on their site where when the helper picks it up the tabletop and the legs break into four and 3 giant cloth-covered snakes fly into the air. Hope this helps.

I am getting the tilting top table.
I like the way it resets itself automatically. Thanks everyone.

Daniel, any time I was also going to mention Hocus Pocus too. And good luck on selling your fire illusion. Sorry, don't know the name of it. Don,

Daniel,
I was abou to order the "Til-Tin Tippin" table top from Hocus Pocus, but now I may wait a bit to hear how it works out for you. Hate to make you the guinea pig, but I'd love to hear your comments on this item. :thanx:

The funniest breakway table routine I EVER saw was unintentional!
A friend of mine does bubble shows. (www.conanthebubbleman.com.au). In this show, he had two stage hands bring on his table between acts. The table was covered in glass of liquid, etc. and they had to walk about ten metres onto the big stage. The legs kept accidentally falling off the table! They kept having to go back and pick up the legs and stick them back on without letting go of the table. It took them about two minutes to cross the stage and when they go the audience gace them a HUGE round of applause. |

I think I would have made that a part of the show. I saw a table about 10-15 years ago. I believe it was sold by Laugh Makers. You had "stuff" on the front of the table, asked someone to pick up an item on the back of the table, and everthing fell to the floor.

The best comedy table I ever saw was made by NZ magician Wayne Rogers (of appearing shovel and ladder fame). Email him and maybe he'll make you one up. He designs the Ronald McDonald Show in NZ. In his table Ronald took a cup off the table and it titled and things fell off. Every time Ronald looked back at the table it was upright and when he looked away it would tilt. Then he would go over and pick the table up and the legs would fall off and some comedy legs appeared looking like clown shoes. It was very funny and very clever. As I say, if you email Wayne he might do a special order.

Hmmmmmmm, I like the Wayne Rogers kind of table. It fits my style of working: I mean the magic is working against you.
