Can someone please explain the "Twisting Reset" effect.(I think its called that. It may be just called Reset.) I have been reading the posts and have seen people refer to this effect. Is this a gimmicked, gaffed effect or is it using regular cards.
One more question. Can anyone tell me the difference between "Chicago Surprise" versus "Chicago Opener"? Are these the same? If I remember correctly "Chicago Opener" is the same as either "Red hot mama" or "Triumph". I can't recall which one. I have Michael Ammar vol1 ETMCM and he made a reference to "Chicago Opener" on one of his card effects. Much appreciated. EdH

Reset refers to a transposition of cards, usually four aces with four kings. the four aces turn one by one into the four kings, then they "reset" and turn back into the four aces
chicago opener is very similar to red hot mama, where the spectator chooses the only odd backed card in the deck triumph is when the deck is shuffled face up into face down, and then magically restored all except for the spectators card Oh and reset uses normal cards, no gaffs |

Thanks JCalelum,
Where can I purchase "Reset". I have looked on penguin magic and the do not have them. My local magic shop does not have them either. Can someone please explain "Chicago Suprise" to me(the effect not the method). I have looked around the various online shops and cannot find anything on it. Maybe I have to look deeper? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Edh

Reset is in Paul Harris's AoA series. Very nice books.

A simpler handling of Reset may be found in The Card Magic of Nick Trost.
Vraious other versions are also available by other magacians. I still like the original by Paul Harris - it's very effective magic. |

What volume of AoA is reset on?

Volume 1, pg. 137 (assuming similar editions!). AoA will serve you well, and for a long time. If you are new to magic I recommend large books or hardcovers. "Why?", you ask?
Because they lay flat when you are trying to learn from them. Alternatively you can get large elastic bands to hold books open. |

Another idea in addition to Metalepsis' suggestion in learning from books is to get a small tape recorder and read the instructions aloud. This way you can listen to your voice describing the moves etc., and you don't have to keep looking at the book. Unless of course there are some photos or illustrations.
Guilt will betray you before technique betrays you!
