I'm looking for a recommendation for a good ball vase. Metal or wood it doesn't really matter, as long as it holds up well and everything nests nice and snug....well, you know what I mean. Thanks, Jim

Andy Greget has some that come from Cambodia. The price is very reasonable. Some use a ping pong ball and others use a sponge ball. I'll PM you his number.

I suggest you make it a point to actually handle any of the "India" ball vases as they seem better suited as an attractive display piece as opposed to an actual "worker". Of course, this may depend upon the individul piece... (This applies especially to the ones with a ping-pong ball.)

I just got one of James Riser's beautiful handcrafted ball and vases. It is made out of mahagony and is made to perform Mike Gallo's routine (does not have or need a s***l). The set includes the necessary balls of different colors (which you can tell apart simply by feel) along with the larger ball.
When Mike's routine was first printed in Richard's Almanac I thought it was great. I immediately went out and got the Adam's vases to perform it. Later I upgraded to a solid brass vase made by Bob Solari. Although I loved the routine it didn't get performed a lot because I only did it for people who I knew had a background in magic who would know about a ball vase. I didn't have a presentation for lay people that I liked, that is, that explained the weird vase which held a ball...it looked like a "trick" prop. I recently (finally!!) came up with a presentation for the effect for lay people which I'm very happy with. And James' handcrafted wood Ball and Vase fits the presentation perfectly. If you're looking for the top of the line in vases (IMHO), check out Riser's site. |
