After speaking with many magicians/mentalists, ive heard mixed views on their thoughts of the use of equivoque. Id like to hear the thoughts of some of the Café members here.

I use it, I love it, I want some more of it.
Seriously, it is an excellent tool if you use it properly. It is not like a card control where you can recover if you mess up though. If used incorrectly, it is usually as transparent as fresh air. Be certain you can use it and practice your technique. Good luck.

I never used to like it, at all. Because I was introduced to it very plainly, and it seemed so obvious because it wasn't being used well.
Now that I've seen it used some more, I'm beginning to realize it's a lot more useful then I thought earlier. Sam is right, when used properly, it is an excellent tool.

I personally love equivoque in the right enviornment and with the right presentation. Ive actually been using it for about 6-7 years now and it always seems to kill. I was wondering if anyone knows whats covered in Phil Goldsteins Verbal Control. Thanks in advance.

Yes, some imprinting on the Equivoque force and an example, to illustrate it, with 5 coins.
But, more important than that, are HIS ideas to the WHY and the HOW he likes to proceed in that way. Paolo Cavalli

It is all about timing, smoothness, and lack of hesitation. Which means rehearsal, rehearsal, rehearsal.

When well done, it is one of the best tools out there. If you can find a copy, read Phantini's Mental Key.

I think equivoque can be really powerful when combined with psychological forcing (thus steering people toward the "best" path) and multiple outcomes.
Read Goldstein’s booklet (cheap too), Berglas (if you already happen to have it), and some routines in Maue’s “Book of Haunted Magick.” |

Goldstein and Berglas have different styles, both are valuable.
Jack Dean Equivoque Choice is a good book you should check if you haven't yet. It's full packed with notions and ideas. Droid |

Verbal control is an essay which covers quite a lot of the apsects, however you need to realsie as you read it that it is mavens formula and not necessarilly THE formula, an interesting read none the less

I learned the technique by myself just by performing it. I learned it from a basic magic book and found that I have a knack at it. For those who just don't get it, check out Verbal Control.

I think I've already posted this, somewhere else.
My choice of books would be Phil Goldstein "Verbal Control" and Jack Dean "The Equivoque Choice" (both available at very low price!) Also, some of the concepts explored by Dan Harlan and some of the concepts explored by David Berglas in one chapter of his mammoth book. Paolo Cavalli

Gene Neilsen also has some material on Equivoque.
Remember a few years back the controversy over the correct pronounciation of Equivoque ? |
