Vaudeville:
Would today's Audiences or Spectators even know what it was? Or is the term simply archaic and off the map? Remember there was a lot of magic trotted out on the old boards...and it's such a great word... Would you put the word Vaudeville in the name of your act?

When I mention the word to college kids, they haven't the slightest idea what I'm talking about.

I have been in a couple Vaudeville shows in the past couple years, and each time was standing room only, in a 250 seat theater. The audience was mostly college-educated 21-40s.
Our show was called "Vaudeville Revisited". We had magic, a hobo band, burlesque puppets, a bawdy house singer, a bubble dancer, break-dancers, and a sideshow freak/fire-eater. In years past, I have produced other variety/vaudeville type shows that have all been successful save one that saw a short box office due to a blizzard in April. I use the word in my own advertising. There is naturally a modern slant to the concept. People understand the premise, and I attach a name to it. http://www.themagiccompany.com/V_n_V_page.html I think if you take the time to constantly throw the word in front of your audiences, it will eventually gain a level of recall. Dinosaurs are still popular... and how long have they been gone?

Michael...thanks for the link and your words...what I wouldn't give to see your shows especially the Victorian Theater show.
I've written a new act and was really really stuck for a name for the Banner. Then I thought: "Geppetto's Vaudeville-Sideshow" (not the whole name but I don't want to give it away yet ) Seeing what your doing just makes it all the more the right thing to do. (Xmosis is the name of the effect I came up with as in 'Xmosis Effect' not a character name, though it's fun for a 'user name on the Café) Thanks Doug
