Greetings all~
Well, it's that time in my magic where I need to design a business card. Now I know the essentials go on it. But my question involves my web site and email. Sense they have the phone number do you think it is necessary to include your email and web site address on your card or use that as communication tools after or durning booking procedure after the first phone call was made?

If you have a good website then you should promote it! Give people as many options as possible.

I always place my website and e-mail on the card. I think of the card as a mini billboard of sorts. I want to give them every chance I can for them to make contact with me.

The bigger question is whether or not you want the card to be a calling card or do you want your card to be more of a marketing piece for you with a call to action. I have seen it done both ways to much success and it really depends on your own individual needs.

With the way your website currently is, I would recommend not putting it on your card. Always remember, that first impressions can make or lose a sale.

Like Nicholas said, if your website is good, then promote it. Use it as a virtual online brochure, to build the relationship with your potential customers.

A website on a free server, with annoying pop-ups, can drive away customers. Same for a website with empty pages, banners with conflicting advertising, etc.

The KidAbra Forum has a really good area within it, discussing the qualities of a good website.

I have my website on all my literature including business cards. Plus my site has a "contact me" button that forwards email to my email box.

I think the point here is that ALL your marketing materials need to be of top quality and work for you. If they are poorly designed in both look and function, or if your website is distracting to viewers, then you may want to hold off on placing yourwebsite on your materials unitl you can get the website up to par.

I would say yes to the e-mail on the card, and make sure, if you have multiple accounts, that it is one you check daily!

I cannot count how many times, when I only have a phone number and want to ask a question, or try to get information, that I will simply go elsewhere if I do not get a real person on the phone. I will always send an email query and give two days for a response. At least that is how my level of frustration when doing business runs!!! Some folks may have more patience than I do!

Absolutely put your email on the card. I have a specific email address on my business card so I know where the business comes from. Likewise, if you mail me from my website, it will come with a default word in the subject line so I know where it comes from as well.

Seems like I've been getting many inquiries lately in my e-mail box as opposed to telephone. In an email, people are comfortable asking questions without feeling stupid. It's less personal, and removes the sender from the content a bit. It's also a great way to reply with hard information and even weblinks!

Also, don't forget to put a valuable sales message in your email signature!!

However, regarding the website, I agree with Donald that your current website isn't ready to be promoted on your cards. It wouldn't take much to get it up to standard though.

One more thought on the e-mail, unlike a sales call on the phone, the solicitee has more control in how they respond. People on the phone are at times easily intimidated, and they will avoid phone sales calls at any cost. With e-mail, they can ask questions and not have to worry about getting a hard sell or a long pitch, nor do they risk what they consider rudeness by simply hanging up the phone!

KayTracy is right. E-mail does offer the prospect more freedom to be able to respond, ask questions without being inhibited, scared or nervous. It just gives another means by which to allow the prospect to contact you in the way they feel most comfortable.

You can put a cell phone number on there, but I would make the cell phone specifically for your magic business. This way your answering voice mail message can be set up in the fashion of a magic business so they do not get confused when they call or leave a message. It also helpes you to answer the phone in a proper business manner.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Richard, here's a key question for you: What way are you most comfortable selling to your potential customers?

Set up your business card to compliment them contacting you by that method.

For example, I like to sell on the phone. Personally, I don't like doing it via e-mail. I never get to ask enough questions. I also don't like to sell by just sending an information kit. I want a chance to do it over the phone first.

So, on my website, I use a submit form (with no visible email address). This way I can receive their e-mail, with contact name and number, and call them on the phone. I don't request their mailing address yet.

So, my business card has my phone, and website. But no e-mail address. So, they call me or I call them.

But this is where my personal strengths are, that's why I choose to do it that way.

I believe that in todays business environement a website and email is expected on a business card. I would peronally not include a cell phone number because it will almost every time ring when you are in the middle of something and really are not able to address questions from a prospect.
I would rather forward my business line to my cell phone when I know I will be able to answer it or utilize a professional answering service with which I would check in frequently.
On another note I find it overkill when someone gives you his office number, private number, cell number and pager on a card.

I personally wouldn't put my email on my business card - mainly because I've had to go through too many of them over the years. It seems like the shelf life of an email addy for me is about six months before the spammers rip it to all heck. One account would receive over 8,000 spam emails a day! I do a lot of email and have done a lot of work online at one time owning 10 domains.

If you havn't been hit that heavy, consider yourself lucky ... when you get on one list, you get sold and resold and before long there are thousands of spammers sending you mail.

I recommend you put your website domain on your card, and have a form that people can fill out to email you. This form can point to any email addy you like, and you can change it at any time for whatever reason.

Michael you are so right! Off the subject of magic, but speaking on experience from my modeling site... job offers pour in through e-mail, yet I rarely get phone calls. And JoeJoe, I love the box on my site that lets people fill in information to contact me. I have an entire message center apart from my personal e-mail account, so it separates business out and helps me organize my priorities.
