Rick, I bet that's the reason there's a lot of 4" die boxes out there!!!
Hardest part of the whole thing is that shell??!!? I guess it could be made out of 1/16 aircraft plywood but some thin brass would work. There's more than one way to bend it into shape. Micro Mark sells an inexpensive metal bending rig. I bought one years ago when I was making those repro Massey Card Daggers. -=tabman

I had a high school metal shop make me the shell. Just took the block to them unpainted and make it to my specs. Cost a whole $5.
Then after I had the shell, Dad and I built the die box. Use a fishing weight in it for the slide, painted it and put knobs on it. No 'fake die' in it though, but found with the way I used, didn't need it. Think it cost me a whole $20 to build it. |

How did you go about inserting the slide? Did you route out a channel in the wood? That's the part I'm a little unsure of.

I don't know how Rick and his dad did it but I would route out a channel on the bottom and use large heavy metal washer for the sliding weight. Make sure there's enough slack so the big washer can rattle around. Then use some thin wood to cover the channel from the bottom.
