How and what is the best method to obtain a snowstorm pack into your palm after youve displayed your hands empty. I know of the elbow shirt steal where the load is stolen while each hand is displayed as the shirts sleeves are pulled up. Are there any specific methods advisable for a snowstorm load steal.

Hi

Pick them up when you pick up the tissue that you tear in small pieces.

I also have a second stack at the handle of my fan and cross load it by moving the fan forward so that the handle is over my loaded hand - where I dump the second load. This is done as the first load peaks on output and done as though I am chasing the snow with the fan.

Hi Paula, Its nice to know you work this effect. How long is your routine. Do the flakes really travel high with just the wind from you shaking the fan ?? How high ?? Thanks..

Hi

My routine is 5 min 41seconds (Chai Mai - Morocone <sp>) but start off with me talking about dreams as a comedy routine - basically lots of silly one liners -

At about 2 min 30seconds in I then go into my dreams as a child and wanting to see snow
- I did this many years ago before DC, but I was no way the first by a long way (I'm not that old).

I use tissues from a tissue box and steal my first two loads with the first tissue - second tissue is just to build it up.

My fan is 15 inch.

Use slow strong strokes with the fan at approx 45 degrees below and behind the snow hand.

As I pick up the fan I also get two more loads.

As my snow load reduces to about 50% I "Chase" the snow with the fan but leave my loaded hand still and as I do the handle of the fan comes into contact with my snow hand and I transfer the extra loads across.

Yes the "snow" will travel high - about 12 feet.
Start you snow going straight out and as it builds move slowly to the left - timing it so that as you come back to centre that the centre snow is still in the air - them go to the right and back to centre.

I finish the snow load and whilst it is still dropping I return the fan and steal two packs of four throw streamers and launch them throwing upwards at about 45 degrees -

And enjoy the applause (or not) LOL

HTH

Wow...do the flakes take that long to reach down...i mean till you finish stage right and come back stage left....really ?

So if I use my giant industrial fan idea I think they shud all be in the air longer right. Or maybe many smaller aluminium fans blowing in different directions will help the flakes to spread out.

I do my snowstorm routine on a regular basis in my show. It is only about 3 min in length and like most of my shows, it is done to music. I rarely speak in my shows. I use body language and facail expression to relay the emotions in my magic. I steal the SS load when I pick up on fan which is sitting on a nearby table. This is also the time that I ditch my soaked paper that was the start of the routine.

You have to be aware of what stage the centre snow is at and time it - I normally perform this sitting on a bar stool and just turn left and right.

Paula

If you are going to use fans then fit on them a pre-loaded snow pack ready to go.

Do not use them until you have established a good snow effect from your hand and then simply fire them up to build up the amount.

In certain venue you should be able to fly these fans and bring the additional snow in from above.

Fly - in theatrical terms is to fit apparatus on the rig - normally overhead.

Hi Paula....You mean load a SS load in front of a fan. Maybe in some sort of holder or something. And then throwing the fan on would blow the flakes ?. don't you think it might just blow the whole thing in one shot or probably just a lil and then the pack will be stuck because you wud need to work it beteen your hands to release the tightly packed flakes ?. Can you elaborate ? Thanks.

The best method for obtaining the packet and performing a switch is on the video tape "The Cabaret Act - Mehdi Talbi" from Hocus Pocus or the original dealer that produces this item Camriand Academy of Magic.

Hi

Yes

Think of a bird feeder that you fit onto a cage - the type that feeds from the top.

This type :-

Seperate the "Flakes" first.

I perform this as the closer in all my school magic shows.
Like Paula I steal the load when obtaining the tissues.

I really have nothing to add here, except to mention that in schools once the show is over I have to clean the entire mess up......it's a hassle but definitely worth it.

Cheers

Any problem of doing the snow storm trick at private parties. Is it bad to do it in someone's house at a private party. If you do this trick to you help clean up the mess?

Please advise.

Speak to them first - just tell them that you are using confetti and get their feelings on it.

Paulajayne is absolutely right about this. Think about how you would feel if someone did this to your house.

There is an interesting steal that I think has gone unmentioned. If you can get a cup that has a recess in the bottom, you can conceal a packet in there.

Bill

Good idea.

Bottles of wine also have a recess - called a punt or a kick - easy to steal from there.

I have also seen some glasses that were made that way, but they are rare. If you have an Okito glass, you could do it with that, I think.

Also, the possibility of doing something like a dove steal comes to mind with this.

Hi

This is a how long is a piece of string type question, its very difficult to say exactly as it depends on how quickly you release them - about 8 - 10 seconds.

The amount released is variable , and as you reach the end needs to build up for the climax.

I use 4 packs in about 40 seconds - starts slowly and slowly builds up.
