We are interested in building a smoke chamber but only wanted to spend about $200-$300 on the fog system. Here is my question...

Would it be better to use one large expensive fogger or to purchase 3 or 4 small cheap foggers to fill the chamber?

Which would fill the box faster (the box is 3 foot square by 6.5 feet high)? We would also probably want the foggers DMX controlled. If we went with the 4 smaller machines (chauvet) and purchased a DMX converter, could we tie all 4 machines into the one converter? Also, many people have told me about hardwiring the smaller foggers so there is no reheat time, anyone have any advice on this. Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Ryan:

I worked on an illusion show where we use a Fog Chamber to produce the star of the show. I was the one who would attach the hose from the fog machine to the chamber. I do not recall what fog machine we use, however it was quite large and long at least 2 1/2 feet. In my opinion this model made our chamber fill rather quickly which added to the illusion.

Having the chamber fill up with fog then producing a person once the chamber is filled in the least amount of time, looks magical.

IMHO

Robert.

P.S. our chamber measured 3' by 6'

Hi

Go for the more expensive option, it will last longer and most come with DMX.

Hard wiring a small fogger will burn out the element very quickly - plus it is a fire hazard as it will continue to heat up.

Go for a good make - Martin.

MagicByry...
Going with 3-4 small fog machines may overload the circuit as well, so keep power requirements in mind.

I second the opinion of paulajayne and going with a stronger more powerful machine that has DMX built in.
Theare effects has a great one called the Viper II by Look from Germany. We use two of these for a special effect...a totally different use than for regular fog.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks for your help guys. Even though I would love to use Viper II, it isn't really in my price range. Any suggestions for a nice fogger with DMX for about $300? Thanks again,

Ryan..since this is in the smoke chamber, do you need to have DMX? Could you use a fog machine with a wireless remote?

Theare Effects has a FG-940 for $275. They have a wireless remote for it that costs $60.

I can get you a better price than that. It is one way to go.
