I'm not sure where to post this ... but

What do you think about magicians who have a promotional site to sell their shows
AND then have a section where they sell product?

I think it's odd.
Even well known names in the magic world do this, so maybe I'm alone in thinking it's odd. For instance, I have seen a Dove worker selling a "how - to tape", manuscripts etc, .

Like, you could be at an event, a magician is the entertainment, wow you think he's great. You go home look up his promo site on the net and suddenly you are offered to buy "how he did it all"??

Isn't this like the old carnival shows that we laugh about , where at the end of the show you can pay an extra amount to look inside the sword box

interested to know what you all think ?

If you go to the website of the biggest names in magic most of them have a Magic Shop on their website. I don't think selling props/videos or manuscripts that you invented is a bad thing. Those that really want to know how its done will find out anyway, we all did!!

From a marketing stanpoint it sends the wrong message. Here is a business person's viewpoint
"He is selling his magic so there must be others out there that do the same things he does."

Another thing that shows the general lack of understanding 80% of magicians have is to put something like the following on their business cards:

Quote:
The Magic of Blah Blah

Creating magic for all your events

Available for Birthdays, Bar Mitzvahs, Corporate Banquets, Trade Shows and Cocktail hours.

Call for booking information.

Anyone care to tell me what's wrong with that?

You mean, other than the misuse of capitals?

It is to generic, to many people use that outline. You need to tell your customers what you can do for them and why they should hire you. Give them what they want, what they need. Unique customer benefits.

For example.

I will make your next corporate event amazingly successful and hassle free guaranteed!

Can you find the benefits in that line?

amazingly successful & hassle free
