Howdy all...I just had a 1st experience. It normally take on average 3 phone calls to secure a show. This is not cold calling. This when they already stated they want to hire me. This is the 1st call the 2nd is to varify any last min. details and the last call is a follow up. Now I just hung up the phone with a client and I have spoken with them 12 times. Talk about eating up my time with phone calls. I'm sure I could've handled it better and reduced the calls, but for the past 5 days this client would call for the smallist detail and go over everything.(I paint a preaty solid picture in the beginning proof is in my website and Bio that I send out) Needless to say I almost wanted to cancel. But I put my best foot forward and stayed calm through out the onslaught. Has anyone else had this happen? please tell all.

If they have already booked then you should just put up with it....

..however, if they haven;t booked I'd suggest you recommend they email you.

Honestly, in a lot of cases I prefer corresponding by email. You can be as detailed as neccesary, and the perception people have is: If it's in writing, it's official!

Ahh yes, sound advice. and I did put up with it thank you. actaully I think I handled it very well. My point is what are some of the worst calls you have had? This was by far the worst for me.

Hi Chris -

I don't know enough details about your situation, but it might be because this customer is being extra-cautious (perhaps their job or reputation is on the line if this event goes badly), or perhaps it is because this customer is inexperienced at planning an event (has lots of questions or fears), or perhaps it is just because they are a very thorough person.

Some customers need more "hands on" than others. Some are quite independent.

Some are more social buyers / personalities, and would rather talk things through with a real live person, than read it in print (so brochures and flyers will have little impact in educating or influencing them).

Naturally, in business you will have all sorts of people to interact with, with different personality styles. The best thing you can do is adapt to their personality style, without getting frustrated. It's like going to France, and learning to speak French, so you mesh better with the environment / culture. Don't get frustrated when the customer doesn't "speak" your personality style.

For further education about personality styles, I recommend Chris Carey's book, "Getting to Know You", and also Dr. Tony Alessandra's tape set, "Relationship Strategies".

Oh, and of course, Dale Carnegie's book, "How to Win Friends and Influence People."

P.S. Yes, I've had customers that needed lots of contact, even over a simple birthday show. In my case, that was fine, because my personality is to be a pretty thorough person, and I don't mind explaining again in a different way / helping them.

Thank you all for your sound advise, but this was not what I was asking for. I am sure I am not the only person that has had a tough time with a perticular phone call call. I'd like to here some strange encounter. Thank you Cheers, Chris

I've shared in several posts on The Dean's List some of the crazy prospects / customers I've encountered, in very general terms. I've shared both good and bad stories.

I try not to share too many details, as this is not a private way to share (posts can come back to haunt you, or customers could even find out), and also borders on being gossip.

I am sure this is not the norm, but you can learn something with this. First of all listen to her, hear what she is asking. If she has this question then perhanps your other clients might have the same question. Sometime they don't ask or forget to ask. Sometimes they don't know they even have this question. If I were you I would work on a sheet of FQA's and post it on your website or you could mail (emial or other) to them.
Nothing of the same will bring any change, take action today!
