Here is one I am curious about: If you were to do a trick Impromptu without beeing equipped at all, I'm talking without a deck of cards, TT's, IT, gim.coins etc.
What would you do? Jack.

If the place allows and I will definitely do Over The Head. Otherwise, it's coins across.
Just yesterday, I had dinner at HY's resturant and at the end of the meal we were presented chocolates that is size of a half-dollar. So vanish 2-3 of the chocolates in front of them using false transfer and quick ditch to my lap. Man, they are amaze! Hey don't forget oldies like Salt Shaker thru table. You will be surprised how many people are still amazed at such tricks. |

Let me be honest..I really wish to be able to do *magic at a moments notice* and somehow I can..
BUT, not in the true sense of what is meant by that term.. Let me give you an example. Whenever I do magic, I try to make the most out of it. That means, I only *choice* to do strong effects, and when I can't do those, I simply don't do anything. That most definitively is a wrong attitude, I know that! In the case I am thinking of, I am able to do strong effects, f.ex. by using coins, but the coins they currently use here in DK, as well as the *Euros* aren't to my liking in handling them, they are too smal.. So even IF (and I can) do magic with the largest sized possible to borrow coin in DK, I wouldn't do it.. I simply *need* the old DKK 5.- to start with, but I always carry 4 of them around. Simply for BETTER effect and handling..but I admit, this just might be *my* psychological flaw..most certainly it is But that is not what here is called impromptu. I willingly admit, there are lots of STRONG imprompty tricks doable, an example is what *Eirik* mentioned, the *Twisting arm Illusion* and *Ashes in palm*. The non-gimmicked bill-switch mentioned, DOES need a bit of preparation, so I wouldn't call it *impromptu, compared to the other above mentioned two, IF I could call it impromptu, my coinwork using old larger DKK 5.-, which I have to carry with me, could be called impromptu too ) Both are great and especially the *ashes in palm*, when done in the style of Hebba Habba Al (at least when trying to do it like he did), is a great piece of entertainment, problem is, I've never practiced any of thsoe 2 mentioned effects, most certainly I SHOULD!!!!
Learn a few things well.....this life is not long enough to do everything.....
( Words of wisdom from Albert Goshman ...it paid off for him - it might as well for YOU!!!- My own magic is styled after that motto... ) |

Firstly, I always carry a TT and two 9" silks around in my pocket - so small, noisless, and available at any given moment. I work in a formal dining room, and it's the perfect item to have when there is a table with kids. I also use things like matches (Penetrating Match Sticks), and rubber bands (a la CMH's or Pinnacle) for the "older" patrons.
I've used other things like gimmicks, but find they all need time to set up (or reset) and aren't suited to my environment. I still carry a pen thru anything, as it's natural for me to carry a pen anyway, and for the very young, I use color changing discs as its an easy-to-understand kind of trick for the 3-6yr old set. Just my two cents Dave Oh one more thing... the penetrating match routine is an easy one to leave with the kids to see if they can work out how to do it - keeps them amused (with thanks from the parents!) and reasonably well-behaved. My patter includes the like of "Hey kids, like playing with matches?" Toothpicks can be a good substitute too. Dave in Oz |

I'm never without a deck of cards; but I sometimes do spongeball routines at work using crumpled paper of the same color and size. With just a little prep, you can make them look alike. At work, I have an apron with huge pockets... very handy.

How about some good old RubberBand Magic?
you can easly use the "Penetrating Bands Routine" by Dan Harlan. move onto the broke and restored band (however you want to do that) then the one with the bands changing positions. and of course, many many more. |

Magic with only your self and nothing esle as if you were Adam and Eve??? ... yeah... twisting arm, balducci, separating thumb, "You see it, it's down, you touch it, it's up... I'm a cat" Or even Copperfield magic! (Can you feel my fingers in your @**? Magic isn't it (showing hands!)? or any mentalism I guess?
I'm just a blind Con that lost his I...

Crazy Man's Handcuffs is a sure fire hit. Also, any quick coin vanish maybe even a balducci levitation?

I recommend Mark Sicher's version of coin under spectator's watch. Also, as already had been mentioned, the twisting arm illusion is a winner. Furthermore finger ring penetrating spoon bowl. Moreover, spoon bending.
Oh, I forgot the old jumping ring (borrowed ring jumps from middle to index finger) bit which was also refined by Mark Sicher. |
