I recommend you Mr. Osterlind Radar Deck, is the same effect (You acn use bycicle cards) and you get a lot of effects, I think is in vol 1 (Mind Mysteries).

It is not the same effect, you cannot show that the deck is completly fair and all different cards.
However, I'll restate my earlier suggestion that you get a mindpower deck, setup like the radar deck. Then you can do it for more people, and less chance of hitting the same card. |

Hi All
What is the purpose of the Bicycle backs? I have an MP pack and was thinking of using it but find this 'subtlety' puzzling Cheers TJ |

For me it is important that I perform with just "a deck of cards". These are simply always red backed bicycles.
It's just a personal preference. The original deck is excellent too.

Does that stuff make sense?...CRAP...now I want a Bike MP deck!!!!

CardsbyMartin.com $150 smackers.
Maybe putting a bike card on top of the deck isn't such a bad idea. Actually I did the same thing Dan LeFay did. Bought a bunch of bike decks and made up a MP deck. You can't ribbon spread it,but with the right management it can be showen as a regular bike deck. |

Then you didn't make up a MP deck, you made up a Koran deck which has been around for a LONG LONG time.
The MP deck just took an old idea(koran deck) and gaffed it so that all the cards could be shown different, that is the key of the deck. |

If you put a Bicycle card on top of the Mind Power Deck, and put the deck in a Bicycle box, the spectator will be completely convinced that the deck is "normal."
Personally, I fan the cards in my hands, rather than spreading them on a table. I find that table surfaces vary, so it's not always easy to get the proper spacing of the cards to avoid revealing things you don't want revealed. Fan the cards, turn away as she thinks of a card ("so I can't see where you're looking"), and then put the cards back in the box and put them away. Now it's not a card trick, but a mind-reading experience. At least, that's my take on it. Cheers, Jerry |

Too gimmicked if you ask me.
And when it was performed for me the first time, I was able to immediately determine the method. Maybe it's just me. I think it was too obvious. |

The part I disagree with is putting the Bicycle card on top. That is not to say I think he is wrong in this, but I choose to handle it exactly as he has described other than on this one point. However, to take this thread lightly into another direction, do not run if you aren't being chased. In my experience, it is largely the rule that spectators do not think in terms of the cards and the way they look. I know that statement can/will pull disagreements and possible criticisms, but again I make the statement based on my experience using this effect. Overall, this has been a fantastic post; certainly one I have looked forward to reading every day. It has caused me to pull this one out of the drawer and consider "making" a place for it in my performances. -Jim |

I also used my original deck with an added bicycle at the back. And I also do the fan instead of the spread. But since I want my volunteers to see the cards right side up, I held the fan vertically. Which exposes the back of the fan when doing strolling. That's the main reason I switched to the custom-made deck.

Sorry Dan. I miss read your post. I understand you had a custom deck made up that is a mindpower deck.
I had put together a Koran style deck from scratch useing bike cards that could not be spread. |

Jerry, I like your idea of putting a bicycle card on top of the deck. I'll be repurchasing the MP deck!

Here's another thought on the Mind Power deck. You can always have an i***x of four predictions in your pockets. I use old receipts with handwritten jottings on the back.
In performing, you have two people think of cards from the deck. Let's say a man thinks of a black card and a blonde woman thinks of a red one. Read the man's mind, but apparently have trouble as you work with the woman (even though you have actually figured out her card as you go). "I thought this might happen. I think I wrote something down earlier." Pat your pockets, and take out the proper slip of paper from the proper pocket. On the back of the receipt is written: "I have a weird feeling a pretty blonde woman is going to think of the King of Diamonds tonight" (or whatever the card is). If you have the deck, you'll understand the workings, which are dead easy as long as you have a blonde woman in the crowd. If not, you can always generalize the predictions ("Someone will think of the ...."), but I like getting the double hit. Cheers, Jerry |

The Bike cards on the front and back make it seem to be a normal deck which it is not.
There is a convincer part of the trick that highlights the deck's ordinary nature. If the backs are clearly unusual -- and they are -- that convincer won't play very well. However, it is a very good effect. I'm not going to read minds with a Deland deck either, as venerable as that gimmicked deck is. I really like that deck, but it is too well-known as a magical deck. (I think some spectators in the audience can interpret the markings for you, if you miss.) |

How do you guys get around the fact that the spectators thought of card moves in the deck if you respread it? Do you do some sort of false cut or what. I use the bike cards on the front and back too, but I think people will notice that their card is in a different spot when the deck is respread. By the way I love this trick.

Naive question (so everyone, please don't scold me at once), but why doesn't Kennedy Magic gimmick up bicycles for this effect? Is it a copyright issue (and if it is, why are most other gimmicked decks done with bicycles)?
Just curious.... |

I am not sure of the answer scott but my only guess would be that they cost a lot more to make. I wouldnt mind paying a lot more for the trick if they wer bicycle brand. I know no laymen knows the difference with the cover cards, but it would make me feel a little better, lol.

The design of the bike backs is copyrighted. However, as you can tell from just how many gaffed cards are bikes, they are fairly liberal with the granting of licenses to use the design (probably because they want to make sure that magicians keep buying their cards since most non-magicians don't go through too many packs in their life).
