Hello:
I've had a bit of a problem with the set up of the middle bead. I also made the hole a bit bigger, and it works much better. The gaffed area goes in much easier. I just took a pencil and wrapped sandpaper around it (220 grit) and sanded away, carefully. Ron |

I purchased this, and find it totally awesome.
no problems with the beads at all. this effect is incredible and it can be done right in front of their noses. I even found a way to do the 'move' right in front of them, and they never, never see it |

Hello:
I think a couple of you are being a bit too harsh on bananafish. Go up a bit to Dean's own post: Dean does use the "m" word himself. I don't think he's too concerned about it because it is well worth the money to buy the supplies - it would be a hassle to find just the right cord, "m"s, and beads. The trick is as old as the hills. It is in many beginner's magic books that a layman could find at the public library. Dean's addition is wonderful; he has made this into a terrific routine, nonetheless. He has done the experimenting, and obtained high quality supplies. Unless you're a beginner, I don't think the MO will surprise you that much. Ron |

Thanks to an early Christmas gift from my magic buddy, I'm now the happy owner of this effect. I have a question for Dean: I've noticed that if the gimmicks are aligned in a particular way, the center bead slides over them with no fumbling, but not otherwise. It sounds as if some on this board have overcome this problem by enlarging the hole in the center bead, but I'm guessing if you thought that was necessary you would have made the bead that way to begin with, so I'll bet you have another way to align the gimmicks smoothly. Could you share it with us? Thanks very much.

Thanks for that Ron. I do apologise to Dean, and indeed to everyone for saying too much, but I was very aware that Mr. Dill had already mentioned "it" and so I didn't think I was doing anything wrong.
When I bought this effect, I was pretty sure I already knew the specifics of the Dillnessfication, but I bought it anyway due to the fact that it was all so beautifully made. It is very much a value for money item EVEN knowing how it works. I don't think it takes much for anyone reading this thread to know exactly what is going on, even if I (or Mr. Dill) hadn't said anything). However. I apologise anyway. I loved it so much I even wrote a review on one of the UK based magic forums. http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic4223.php |

I too just received this affect and really appreciate how cleanly it works. I use a similar routine in a Rope thru Spectator trick but this is certainly much cleaner and easier to repeat. Nice work.

Making the red bead hole slightly larger is a good idea....
the other thing I did was to bind the tips of the ropes slightly so getting the ropes into the beads is much smoother and faster if needed,,, great pocket trick |

Jeff,
In order to align the gimmicks so they are strong and are not twisted this is what you do. Hold the cord as in illustration 1. with the gimmick in position. Now take the other cord and hold it in your left hand by one end and hanging downward toward the floor. Use your right hand to lightly stroke the cord. Run your right hand down until you feel it grab the gimmick all by itself. If your grip is very light the gimmicks will position themselves perfectly. Nature will take it's course all by itself. If you do it a few times and watch what happens you will be amazed. Sometimes if you try and force them into postion they will attach backwards which gives you a weak contact point. I hope you all understand what I am saying. I had to experiment a lot before I noticed these things. That is what all of you should do when you are troubleshooting any magic trick. Your thinking should never stop until you are totally satisfied with the result. Another tip: When it is time to secure the gimmicks within the first bead, make sure that the cords are not bunched up incorrectly. As you pull the cords through the bead keep them even. If you notice that once side starts to bunch up then pull the other side to make it even. Once in position you should be able to pinch the cords and push them up into the bead. Don't pull the bead over the cords, push the gimmicks into the bead. Everything should work perfectly from here. Later I will share some other hints as they come. I appreciate everyone here. I always love it when people can all share the joy. That is what inspires us all and makes us better. Remember we are all in this together. We should all strive for perfection and share it. If someone else does it wrong, an or exposes the method, it reflects on us. Lets all do it right. Dean Dill |

Your right Pete.
I have been to Dean's shop twice and he made me feel very welcome both times. He invited me to hang out without knowing me at all. He also showed me 2 card tricks that blew me away. I'm going back next time I need a hair cut, even though it is a 2 hour drive each way. Big Jeff |

Some more thoughts on threading the first (red) bead...
I have found, that when reaching the "difficult" point of threading the first bead, if you hold the bead and cords up so that your hands are just above your eyes, and you fix your line of sight firmly on the ends of the cords, and at the same time your patter relates to how you are trying to get the red bead as central as possible - for example "Does that look like it is in the centre to you? maybe just a little more?" When asking them the question, you look one specator in they eyes, then by looking (slightly) down at the two sets of ends the eyes of all the spectators should follow yours. There is no need to be looking at the hand threading the cord through the bead, you will know when it has been done by touch. Naturally though when this is being done, all they would see if they do look up is the back of your fingers and maybe a bit of the red bead... Then once the bead is on, I always make sure I grab one set of ends and hold the whole thing upright as this seems to dismiss any myth that something sneaky may have occurred. Did I mention how much I love this effect yet? |

Got mine, and I really like it. I went with red. I like it enough that Im going to purchase the black set next. I found with my set, I do not need to enlarge the red bead at all. Everything fits perfectly, and I really like Deans handling tips. Thanks for the super fast shipping Dean!!!
