Nut Box...$249.95
http://www.hanklee.org/xcart/customer/pr......antity=1 Card Penetration Box...$350.00 http://www.hanklee.org/xcart/customer/pr......antity=1 Please, tell me. These are self working, never fail jaw dropping mechanical miracles? I have spent less on a new couch, so just wondering if anyone can offer an opinion on these intriguing wallet busters. (o.k. so it wasn't that nice of a couch.) |

Please use Hocus Pocus as your magic shop. They carry all the Porper products and you can call them and ask about them at 1-800-407-4040. Ask for Jason or Paul. They are awesome!!

It pays to do a quick search beforehand on existing products, although sometimes it's useful to bring a topic back-up to the top of the thread for new opinions. Card Penetration Box review:

You can go to Andy Martin's web site and get reviews on both of these effects. Go to http://www.martinsmagic.com
I have both of these effects and I agree with his reviews. |

Of the two, I think the Nut Box is a better prop, but that may be magician-thinkikng. You can see my thoughts on the Card Penetration on the thread referred to. It (the Card Box,) has angle problems and is similar in restrictive performance circumstance to Kaballa, Coin of the Realm or more closely to Die Thru Mirror.
The Nut Box is a clever method and a very different effect. It has no angle restrictions. Basically, you show a brass net in an inset in a box (which is somewhat suspicious anyway...if you could to it, why do you need the big box?) along with a bolt. The bolt is screwed into the nut and then used to pull the nut out so both can be examined. The nut is put back in place and the bolt removed. Now, the bolt is started into the nut and suddenly it just drops through. It is pretty cool. The "work" is done when you remove the bolt to show it. The bolt is dropped back out of the nut into the hand and everything can be examined, although I don't know that I would honestly leave it too terribly long with the audience. From an "examination" standpoint, I think the Card Box is safer, but they're both pretty good and very well made as far as hiding the secret working. Neither are great tricks. Both are very well made. If I were going to buy one to really consider using, I would have to lean toward the Nut Box, although I honestly suspect you'll find yourself amusing yourself and other magicians at the magic club with either of them, more than real audiences. |

Thanks all for the tremendous feedback and I apologise if I am bringing up an exhausted topic. The high price makes these things intriguing to me... I imagine the workmanship is fantastic...
but in the end it is the real world usabilty and strength of the effect that matters more to me. I will proceed with caution on these bigger ticket items. |

Porper products are expensive but I testify on his behalf regarding quaility that you will get what you pay for. I own his stainless steel dice stacking cup and several of his paddles. Friends of mine own the strong box and the poker chips that I have handled personally and man is the craftmanship and quality there.

I have most of Mr. Porper's items incoluding the cups and balls and Misers Dream Cocktail Shaker. They are all excellent quality. The two least liked effects/items would be the card penetration boix and the nut box. The card penetration being the least favorite and would not recommend it at all. In fact, I would not recommend the nut box as well. Waht is a nut box anyway? I would perform this effect in a real world setting. If I would do something like it I would do the basic brema nut, pin and string routine. It is sold by Hank Lee and Tannens and it costs about $40.00 or less.
Best regards, Michael
