Anyone use 'A Word in a Million' by Nicholas Einhorn from JB Magic?
http://www.jbtv.co.uk/videos/wordinamillion_hires.avi Not sure if the demo is 'live' or not - looks a bit too clean... Dr. Zordas |

It plays just as you see it!
It's pretty good actually. It is classically simple and you have already seen the main means of how it works!! TEE HEE! I'm not sure if they stock it anymore... As of August 25th Nicholas said it was discontinued but they may have changed.

Oh good, I was a bit surprised to hear when he mentioned it. Maybe it was just out of stock when he spoke of it.
Upon recieving it you'll either love it or hate it, but give it a go if you are at all in doubt. I was pleasantly surprised when I did it. It is based upon a classic method but employed in a sly way. I like A Word in a Million because it uses NO FORCE whatsoever and it uses a totally genuine book.

...Even if it is 'car... paper' can *you* see the peek in the video? I can't - must be worth a tenner...

No automobiles were hurt in the manufacturing of this product.
The gimmick is simple but the use of the gimmick is very clever. Everything is well worked out to enable the performer to do "whatever it is that needs doing" at the most natural moment.

The method for discerning the word seems very motivated and natural to me. I like it. Even though I figured out how this works by watching the video clip and I could make this myself, I'd buy it if I intended on using the method as to do otherwise would be unfair to the creator.

I like this as you can eliminate the idea of you reading an imprint on the cover by using a sharpie.
And the natural handling works great. the only thing I will add is it seems much more impossible and impromptue if you hand them the book and maybe a till reciept to write on as some might think why pull a post it off a pad when it would be more natural to write on a full block? I think any scrap paper and the book and let them rest on your back so you cant see greatly adds to the mistery. regards, Doc. |

Dr. Zordas,
You are correct. I have looked at the video clip several times and I cannot see the peek. Even if it uses car... pap.., I agree that it is used quite cleverly. I also like Dr. Dark's subtlety of NOT taking a post it note from a pad but rather sticking on a separate piece of paper. You an probably make up several real, "ungaffed" books and let the spectator have a literally free chocie of a number of real books. You can also have one spectator use one book for a basic book test where you reveal the thought of word. You can then have another spectator use a travel book that has been prepared and pick out a place he/she would like to travel to and then to write down a famous landmark in that Country ie. the Eiffel Tower. As the spectator is directed to imagine traveling thorugh the various parts of the Country that he/she selected, and to imagine being able to see all of the sights and hear all of the sounds of the city or countryside and then to imagine going to the landmark and then as the spectator is concentrating with his/her eyes closed, you can draw the landmark that the spectator was thinking about. Best regards, Michael

I would appreciate it if anyone would know if there is a strong chance of the spectator finding or becoming aware of the gaff/gimmick while handling the book. What is the degree of scrutiny that the prepared book can undergo by a spectator without the gaff/gimmick being revealed?
Thank you very much. Michael

If a piece of paper is not already designed to stick to a surface, why would you want to stick it to the book with a piece of tape? Why wouldn't you just hand someone the slip of paper and ask them to rest it on the book? You can't in the context of the routine but you would in the real world.
Post-It notes are designed to stick to surfaces and so are a natural item to use. They are also created to write notes on; till receipts aren't If someone ever asks why you are using a Post-It note rather than any other sort of slip of paper, something is seriously wrong in your presentation!

After viewing the video and listening to the statements advertising the item, I came up with a conclusion.
You cannot use "any book" as stated in the video. This was confirmed by an e-mail response from JB Magic. The effect does look great, but if you are going to buy this, you had better think this through! Terry

Mr. Allen,
I was actually thinking more along the lines of just giving the spectator a piece of plain paper and having the book to be used as a writing surface. But I do not know if the writing must be confined to a certain, limited area on the book thereby making the only practical method is to use a post-it note so that it can be stuck directly onto the proper area. You are absolutely correct that a post-it note is so generic and unassuming, that it can be used without the slightest thought and without the slightest guilt. Terry, I am not to good with ____________. Are you trying to say that only hard covered book can be used? If so, that is not an unreasonable limitation. If not, can you be a little more illuminating with your comment. Best regards, Michael

...You could use a single Post-It note quite easily -
if you had a pad, then the complete pad is usually used to write on, then the note torn off... What you do is have a single Post-It note IN THE BOOK as a book-mark. Dr. Zordas |
