Greetings and Salutations,
Whit, thanks for the heads up. Back in the Day, Dr. Thompson was my "inspiration" for getting into journalism school and various other activites, most of which the statutes of limitations have passed on. Although I could swear I've read nearly every word he's put into print, I don't recall ever having read this, if you could give me a source I would be greatly appreciate it. Street, as for putting it into my signature, I'm afraid some of these tasks are beyond my foggy faculties, but thanks for the advice. Joe in KC |

Sorry, Joe. I don't have a source for this. Just a memory from my own foggy faculties. Maybe someone else can help. Would like to have the reference pinned down myself.

Greetings Whit,
No problem-o! If someone can't come up with the source it'll give me something to do between practice sessions this winter. I often introduce myself this way: for those who have never seen me before, I am David Copperfield. ..pause..
But if you have seen him before, then I guess I am just Brother David. But I will entertain you just as much! BroDavid

I once knew a clown street performer who was named "Pupu" pronounced "POO POO." It was always funny to hear him say, "Hey kids, you want to play with POO POO?"

I'll bet his act lived up to the name.
You have to be careful of the name you choose. Almost any word you use has a meaning you don't know about in some other language. Meanwhile, just call me "Willy."

Yeah Bill, his act "stunk." He still performs, but under a different name now. Maybe it's just me, but I thought "Pupu" was a bit crappy.

I need some opinions.
Knowing that VanVranken is way too long for a "street name," I've been toying with other variants of my initials D.V. I belong to a few online Ren groups, and I had shortened my login name to DaveV, and eventually to tie it into magic, Dai V. (After all, the Professor and I already share the same first name, so why not?) Since I'm also into music, one of the forums I used to frequent was a music notation (transcribing)software group. There, a few people have adopted musical terms as names and modified them slightly. Al Abreve is one example. Using the musical terminology angle, I added a last name "Visi." Divisi is a term that described a "divided voice" or two phrases on the same staff, common in guitar music where all parts are written in treble clef. Anyway, so much for the history lesson. I still like the sound of Dai Visi, but spoken aloud it's confusing to get the point across, so what happens is they get the "Dave" sound, but lose the "V" in Visi. My quesion: What about phonetically moving the "V" and keeping the sound exactly the same? For Ren Faires, I can still be Dai Visi, the Mage of the Meadows, but on paved streets I'd be Dave Easy. Talking about how words can have other meanings, I'm looking for opinions on how well this might work.

Dave,
I think you have a great name for the street. Just VanVranken has a very cool sound I think. Even splitting it to Van Vranken using Van as a first name I think is great too. The BEST name story I have heard in a long time was a post our own Pete Biro made over on the Genii board sometime. He was at one time billed as: "The Amazing Peter" I blew coffee all over my monitor when I read that one. Pete, How about the rest of that story? Please? I just don't "see" it. After nearly 50 years, I guess I'm just too used to the sound of it.
