All of the following topics are about some form of Three Card Monte. Note that the Color Monte routines are different than the normal Monte effect, but since they use three cards, I included them.
The most popular gaffed Monte appears to be the Ultimate Three Card Monte sold by Michael Skinner, and although this is often referred to as Skinner's Ultimate Three Card Monte, he did not invent the trick. It was invented by Eddie Taytelbaum from Holland. Ultimate 3 Card Monte 3 Card Monte gaffs What is the best 3 card monte available? Hey Bill - appreciate the list. Is it exhaustive? I support the comment that it should be permanently 'stuck' on the top! Thanks again.

I did check every page in the entire forum for three card versions.
Three Card Monte, and the various routines and gaffed versions are also mentioned in other topics, e.g. the typical "favorite tricks" topics. I didn't include those.

Michael Skinner's "Ultimate Three Card Monte" was once offered as a product "As Seen on TV." This link will show you what the cover looked like:
http://tinyurl.com/ovgwrh9 I'm curious as to whether anyone ever saw the actual TV ad. As the illustrator of the instruction booklet, I'd like to find out what the TV spot was like. ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

Sonny,
I think the "As Seen on TV" label is referring to the trick being performed on TV, not sold via a TV advert. I might be wrong though. Marty |

Marty,
The reason I think that there was an actual TV infomercial is that the "As Seen on TV" logo was added to the cover of the instruction booklet http://tinyurl.com/ns8odry and I don't think the logo would have been used on the booklet if the trick wasn't actually advertised on TV. I'm sure the "As Seen on TV" folks are very proprietary about their logo. (The original booklet that L&L published with the trick did not have the "As Seen on TV" logo on it.) I'm guessing that it was a TV commercial sort of like Marshall Brodien's "TV Magic Cards" commercials https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uckMhd4yv0E or the old Squirmles commercial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeNqz-PajJg ----- Sonny

Be easier to search for "Harry Lorayne". (Some of my handling of the Trevor Lewis/Ken Krenzel monte ideas are in an early (1978!) issue of APOCALYPSE.)

However, I don't think the red ASOTV logo was used in this case. The phrase can also be used as a general marketing term, which I'm assuming is the case here. Marty |

Just wondering if anyone has ever done a stand up version of skinner's 3 card monte? I developed a little routine which works pretty well. I still like stand up monte a little bit better, but this verions is kind of cool too.
phase 1: where's the ace? top, middle or bottom? for this phase, you don't use the gimmicks... so use DLs when putting a card from the top to the bottom. phase 2: where's the ace again? for this phase use the gimmicks so that you can very fairly show the cards, slowly move the top card to the bottom, and reveal that the ace isn't where they think it is. phase 3: turn the ace upside down and put in between the other two cards. then push card through and reveal that it's switched places and now it's one of the face up cards. phase 4: I put a card in my mouth, show the ace and the 3 in my hands... then the ace jumps up to my mouth. |

To answer Adam's question of nearly a month ago...
Ken Brooke had a jumbo monte routine called "Chase the Ace." Here's a link to "Chase the Ace" at the Stevens Magic Shop: http://www.stevensmagic.com/shop/chase-the-ace-ken-brooke/ On that page you will also find a youtube video of Joe performing the trick. I think there was a Supreme Magic version of the trick with giant cards (i.e. bigger than standard jumbo) like a red ace and a black 2-spot and a black 3-spot. You needed a pretty big hand though to cover the gimmicked you-know-what. There are some other variations of three card monte as well that you can find doing a web search or even a search on eBay. There's one on eBay as I write this with cards that measure 7" x 4.5" called "Jumbo Unconquered"--a title which may be a nod to Mike Rogers' "Unconquered Card" which was very similar to Mike Skinner's routine. Then there's Harry Anderson's Three Card Monarch and Three Card Prince which can also be done on stage. ----- Sonny
