Yeah Jakks -
Michael Close's "VERY VERY CLOSE" Series Daryl would also be a good way to spend money and he is one of the best - If you're sure you want the Daryl Videos - My recommendation would be "REVELATIONS" Actually - you can't go wrong with either but The "REVELATIONS" has a little more variety Dave |

Really? So I should wait for the sleights? By the way I sound it, but I'm not a newbie. Been into magic 10 years on and off.....Just no videos, so this will be my first....

If you dont have Bill Malone's series or Jay Sankey's series get those first, as for Daryl, it gets very basic at points but there are still many things you can learn from it.
The revelation series has some good things you could add to your routine, but how many pick a card tricks do you need? Look at the description and try to get the ones in the series which you could get the most out of, because a lot of the material you should have learned from other sources. |

Are Bill Malone's "On the Loose" series worth the money? I know Bill is awesome..... but I want Daryl because at his site he has a half off discount if you buy a whole set.....
Jay Sankey "series"? Which one |

I would say the best of Jay Sankey (3 volumes). And trust me, the Malone series is all that it's hyped up to be, you will learn a lot of neat things, and of course, Malone's presentation is always fun to watch. Highly recommended.

As long as we're on this topic, might I inquire as to which Daryl sleights tape deals with colour changes?
This is really the only one I would be interested in for now. By the way, I have Malone's first "On The Loose" dvd. It is absolute gold. As is the Best of Jay Sankey. If you want something a bit more general I would imagine that Daryl's Encyclopaedia would be a better purchase. However, the first couple, from what I've heard, are a bit basic and probably not worth the money of someone who's been dabbling in magic for 10 years, Jakks.

Do not buy all the Daryl Card Revelation tapes at once. Nobody needs all that. I own a few and that's two too many. I'd just buy the first one. Then look at the back of the Daryl Sleight Videos and pick the two or three you want or need. I own volume 4, 6, and 7. They're all very good.

Just for fun, you might want to pick up Daryl's "Ambitious Card" dvd also.
It's excellent in every way.

I think I paid $23 for the "ambitious DVD" from E-bay, but I think it retails for around $30 retail.

Just a quick question for those who already have the revalations series. Do all of the tricks start out with the spectator "picking a card"? Also, are the endings to the tricks origional and exciting or are they basically a video compilation of endings that most magicians would already have in their library of card magic? Thanks!
Also, does the card slights series teach routines as well, or just shows the slights and explains what they are used for? |

I think the card sleights series are just that. Sleights with not routines. But I could be wrong.

I do not recommend the daryl slights series.
Especially if you've been doing magic for a while. I found it a waste of money and a fast-forward marathon. If you want an encyclopedia of slights so you can read about a slight somewhere and say "gee, i don't get it. better go look it up and watch it be performed" then it's the series for you and you better get it on DVD! But if you want bang-for-the-buck then this is not the stuff. I ask myself: Where can I perform? How flexible am I in terms of what I can do? Large crowds? Bars? Kids Shows? Street Magic? Strolling Magic? Stage? Impromptu ... as in right now and all you have is a toothpick, a die, some change and ballpoint pen in your pocket. There are tons of videos to help you get to be a more well-rounded capable exciting magician. I think that is important enough to weigh heavily in deciding on your purchases. Encyclopedia videos really are not helpful in that regard as far as i'm concerned, anyway. I learn the slights as needed and they are usually clearly presented on other videos where the slight is actually needed or in books (and usually cheap ones, e.g., Paul Le Paul, Card Control, Royal Road, Expert Card Technique, on and on) I think for the money there are much better things out there. I would especially suggest a variety of performers and not a bunch of just one guy. Here is a small sample of great stuff... Miracles While you Wait Chappy Brazil Watch Steal Vid Sankey Revolutionary Coin Magic Michael Close Very Very Close 1,2,3,or6 Greg Wilson On the spot Dan Harlan Rubberband Magic Lennart Green 1,2 Greg Wilson Card Stunts Dean Dill Coin Miracles or 2000 Ultra-Cervon Ray Kosby Impossible Card Magic Dan Garret For other coin stuff, ask in the coin threads. Ask Dan Watkins, for instance. And while i'm on my soap box... One small cheap single purchase of this booklet... Gary Kurtz - Leading With Your Head is worth more to your magic than all the Daryl Slights Videos combined. I do think Daryl is a fantastic teacher, entertainer, and all around guy. I just feel very strongly about where one's money should go in becoming a great magician.
