I want to go visit my family in Pennsylvania over Christmas and then I'm going to Seattle for a wedding over New Years. Has anyone ever hired a professional pet sitter to watch their rabbit? How much did it cost? Does anyone have any other ideas? I'm really between a rock and hard place. Everyone I know here in Chicago is going home to visit their families.

I can't. They won't allow her on the train and I can't imagine flying with her. She's getting up there (she's 6) and I don't want to cause her any undue stress. Has anyone here ever flown with a rabbit?

I have never flown with a rabbit, but traveling doesn't seem to bother mine. I am fortunate to have family that I can trust that live near enough to take care of mine when we are away. I have had some neighbors that cared them in the past also. I would usually buy them a gift or something as a gesture of thanks. We also took care of some things for them when they would be away. They moved so I don't have this luxury anymore.

I get friends to feed them and give them fresh water, make sure you can trust them!

Our local dog kennel has housed rabbits, but she has two buildings; one for the dogs, and one for the smaller cage pets (birds, cats, and small animals, all in different rooms.) I wouldn't board my bird in a kennel where cats are a foot away all day, or my rabbit right next to a beagle, for example.

It's $4 a day. ($6/day for the dogs.) Call around to the local kennels, then visit several, trust your instincts, and ask for references.

I'm lucky that I've got a trustworthy teen neighbor to watch the cats and rabbit when we're away. The dogs go to the kennel, for his convenience, and ours. Those long distance phone calls asking where the mop is to clean up after the dogs wouldn't be good for him, or us!
