Here is a summary of the tricks I intend to use for my first walk-around "act" ever. Further down I describe the effecs, why I choose them, and what problems might arise. Any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated.
1) Direct From the Factory (Malone DVD) 2) Pencil Coin Vanish and Reappearance (Tarbell Book) 3) The World Famous Two Coin Trick (Andrews video) 4) Amazing (Andrews video) 5) Progress Report (Kaufman book "Cardmagic") 6) Slydini Silks (Malone DVD) 1) Direct From the Factory Faces appear on a blank deck and disappear with a wipe of the hand. A real quick, visual production and vanish of faces that is sure to catch their attention. Problem: The Midnight Shift (a Hermann Pass with a twist, literally) might be seen from behind. Probably not that much of problem, because later in the trick a printed card is merely cut to the top, so it does not matter if someone is watching over your shoulder realizes the Pass is merely a cut. Someone watching from behind probably does not know what's going on anyway. 2) Pencil Coin Vanish and Reappearance. The hand holding a coin is touched with a pencil, and the coin disappears. Another touch, and it comes back. This is for *me* to try how effective *simple* magic can be. 3) The World Famous Two Coin Trick Ungimmicked Hopping Halfes. Totally angle proof, if there are no children. Works even then if you use the FP (as usual) instead of the CP for the Shuttle Pass. 4) Amazing Two selections are peeked at. Magician successfully reads the first spectators mind, then attempts to bring the second spectator's card to the top. He fails, but puts the "wrong" card in the spectators hand. After several unsuccessful attempts to find the card, the card in the spectator's hand changes into her selection. 5) Progress Report Magician inserts a face down joker into 4 face up aces. One ace at a time, they follow the joker and turn face down. To finish, the joker turns back face up among the face down aces. This was choosen to have some card effect that does not require the spectator to select a card. No setup except to take the 5 cards out of the deck. 6) Slydini Silks Magician ties a knot and magically takes it out. Spectator ties a knot, yet the silks come apart. To finish, the magician has several spectators tie real, tight knots, but still the knots dissolve. |

Pete's right.
You'll get as many well-intended opinions as there are Café members. While many can share good ideas, the fact that it appears you've thought this through and have a comfort level with each of your proposed effects, as long as it flows for your performance(s), go for it. And, as Pete asked, please let us know how it goes for you. In additon to your effects: there's a entire wealth of information at the Café about the physchology of table hopping and audience handling. You might do a search to check the information already provided by others. Good luck! Thanks - Ron |

6) Slydini Silks It took a while for me to figure out how to get the silks to "melt" apart. Steve Draun does a masterful job on his video clip on his website. If you don't do it like he does..... you've got work to do!!!!!

Thanks a lot for pointing this out to me, Frank. I love Steve Draun's performance! This is the kind of performance that reminds me that I really, really want to become a professional magician myself. Wonderful!
