I Would like to perform Michael Ammars pencil Through quarter routine, but have not tryed it out yet for one reason. With the new state quarters who knows what kind of quarter they will give me. When I swith out the borrowed quarter, my cig through quarter might not match it and someone will definetly notice.
Has anyone come up with any soilutions to this problem. Thank you, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Usually this isn't a problem. I mean, if you want you go go through the mathematics and probabilities but there are many, many more "older" coins out there than the "newer" coins.
One thing that I find works, is if you do receive on of the newer coins, keep the angle of the coin so that they can only see the effect from the side view. This way they can see the grooves of the coin (hence, they think they see the whole coin) and they can see the pencil going through the coin. Trust me, the effect of the pencil, cig, ect is more than enough to keep their mind off of whether it's the same. If they aren't expecting it to happen, and then you just do it, they are still so shocked from the effect that it hasn't dawned on them to notice if it's the same coin. Most will just assume. Hope that helps. ~Priest~

Put several quarters into someones hand that came from your own pocket as you request several others be added by your audience. Make sure that one of the coins you put in there matches the gimmick.
Ask your helper to examine ALL the coins and to make sure that there are "no ghsots, floating lady's, witches, threads or trapdoors with the coins and say that it is very important that they do and that they will see why in a moment. You then hand them an architect's pencil (the kind that are not sharpened but are solid and tubular and the same size as the hole) and ask them to check it too. At that exact moment, with the gimmick finger palmed, reach over and apprently "take" the gimmicked coin from the outstretched hand of your helper and casually place it on the table as you take back the pencil. (Make sure that you have a duplicate coin to switch at the end of the routine too.) Do the routine and then hand the pencil back and at the same time switch the coin and hand it back too. A nice way to clean up might also be after the penetration to immediately say "A lot of people are not quite sure what they have just witnessed when I do this and in fact, not everyone is even sure if they have seen anything at all" and with that, you perform a "strike vanish" using the pencil as your wand. Then reach into your pocket to "reproduce" the coin (switching it of course). Then continue to do several other ungimmicked things with coins. I had the same question. And Thoughtreader brilliantly answered it! He really read my thoughts!

Not much to add to the above posts. In addition you can specifically ask for the older quarters because the new state quarters
have a different type or combination of metal So in order for you to show them something really strange you need the older quater. Just a thought David Paul

You know – when I see people give me a quarter they never look at the back of it first and say to themselves, “Now, I am giving him Florida….”
Don’t ask for a quarter – ask for change at your table and let the people spill it out – you pick up the coin you want and go from there. Priest makes a valid point of tilting the coin from total view. Take it and say “Missouri! That completes my collection” and put it in your pocket and ask for a second quarter. Hope that helps, |
