The gaming wool I buy and use is the same stuff that is used on the most expensive pool tables, craps tables, bj tables. I use two brands, Mali and Simones. Price wise it works out a little more than leather but its an awesome surface and looks good in context. I've had a strip hanging on a nail outside the shop for almost six years and besides being a little stiff from repeated rain/sun the color looks good which is surprising since the sun's radiation now destroys everything else out there. Can't beat sheep!!!

Eighth inch exactly. Enough give so things will stay put, yet easy to pick up...
Gee, do you need any product testers????

Well, I'm not opposed to the idea of product testers but how many times can you jump up and down on a table??
I just got in a bunch of supplies in via UPS to make up a few of these tables. I will have some photos next week for sure. -=tabman

I was hoping to have photos up on the tabman site today but the weather here has turned weird and it's raining like the flood of Noah's time (well probably not!) but I need a boat to get over to the magic shop. Yesterday I cut and routed the parts for an inexpensive buskers x type table as well as another of the same genre that has been residing in my notebook for about ten years. If the rain stops soon I will head out to the shop to assemble one and shoot some pics. Thanks for everyones feedback and will look forward for more. I'll holler when those pics are up expect them tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing the pics. Gee, can I just send a bucket of money and order one?

Thanks David, if things work out the way I'm thinking, it won't take a bucket of money to buy one of these. My plan is to offer a nice kit. Pre cut, routed, drilled; with screws, glue, everything needed. We will also make a nice carrying bag available, again at a reasonable price. You sand and finish the table out the way you want.
The rain stopped tonight but I still haven't been able to get to the shop today. We really got flooded here in central Tennessee. You can send me a bucket of money anyway if you want though!!! -=tabman

I lik ethe kit idea. Would you offer finishing the wood for a nominal charge (for the klutz and/or just plain lazy like me)

I doubt that you're lazy or a klutz if you're learning and performing magic but I will be offering that option, yes. I'm heading out to the shop in a few minutes to get back to work on them.

I'll for sure have pics tomorrow.
I have the top assembled. I've decided on 22.5" x 33.5" for the top size and 34" high. The cost for the white wood (pine/fir) kit will be between $150 and $200 (shipping extra). Walnut, mahogany and cherry will be $100 more. The black canvas carrying bag will be $85. Add $60 for a padded green mali cloth table surface. This will not be a dealer item as I'd have to raise the price too much and it would defeat my purpose for making this available at a reasonable price. Finished out it will be more but I haven't worked out those details yet. Pictures tomorrow evening. Tomorrow promises to be a fun day in the shop. Now if I can just decide whtat to call this new table. I've been thinking about calling it The Café Table Kit. Any suggestions??? -=tabman

Whew. Long day!!! Here's a pic of the prototype "Cafe Table." It's strong and lightweight. I havent weighed it but it can't weigh over 10 lbs or so. I'll weigh it tomorrow. The shelf is standard. Let me know what you think.

Beautiful! I wonder how much weight it could hold? No, I am not volunteering to jump up and down on it...

Thanks guys, appreciate the positive comments.
As far as how much weight it will hold, I might start piling stuff on it today. I mean, how much weight does it need to hold???? A concrete block, a cannonball, two watermellons and a bucket of horse shoes???? Where is the point that how much it weighs offsets the amount of weight it will actually hold. I guess it might be good if it could hold a 250 lb man so he could mount the table to draw a crowd!!! Course that 250lb limit lets me out!!! I will weigh it today and toss a few bricks at it too. -=tabman
