I saw this video of Danny and it seems interesting considering the words "Jacketless topit". Can someone please give a review? Thank you.

Okay, seems you don't like it.
One last question, Black Hole by Peter Loughran or Suspended Dimension? I am a very close-up worker who performs always surrounded by people. What do you prefer? |

...only if it fits your performance locations (i.e., standing vs sitting) and props

Black Hole and Suspended Dimension are really not compareable. You can easily use both at the same time.
Suspended Dimension offers some really visual vanishes, where you have to be more subtle with Black Hole. |

I have not used suspended dimension but was thinking of buying it... What is everyones problem with it - specifically? If the advertising is to be believed it sounds great, and if the price is anything to go buy, you'd hope it would be good for how much it is, so what is your specific problem with it.

Unfortunately, the reviews are really unfair, but I do think there are just a few performers who would benefit from using Dan's brilliant creation the way he does, it's up to the performers to adapt the gaff and experiment until it fits in with what they're doing as performers.
When you buy this video, Dan Sylvester teaches you to use his devastating gaff but because of the way it's constructed, most magicians would have to change their whole presentational style. One of the most positive things about Sylvester is his willingness to share everything he does, the problem is, most performers are not even close to having the dedication to create and modify that which is taught. The first thing you have to remember when buying from Sylvester is - His performance persona is a CARTOON CHARACTER - very hard to adapt to a close up magician's style. Second thing is Sylvester is a near genius in both creation and the philosophy of performing and if you attend one of his lectures, you'll understand why he is so willing to show you his mechanics and methods for his performances. He WANTS you to perform and entertain audiences, if you want to use his Suspended Dimension, Sylvester Pitch or 10 Foot Pole, he's more than happy for you..... But he wants you to use them as they were intended, with expertise and with your own personality, not a copy of his voice and make up. Dan's teaching style is to give you what he does and challenge you to THINK about how you can use his ideas While I agree this is not for everyone and in fact, as stated above, can't be used as presented by 99% of the magicians of the world, I'm willing to bet that you've been fooled by the use of this gaff by someone who came up with their own hybrid of Suspended Dimension. I have Suspended Dimension and for however long it is, it really only needed to be about 5 to 10 minutes long. Dave is right about Dans style, it IS a cartoon character for sure, but on top of that its very annoying to watch
In truth there is only one idea on this DVD which is repeated to death, but you COULD adapt it to suit your own style (if you thought about it). I would just invest in a good topit and Ammars DVD, give this a skip unless you are loaded, or unless you are one of these people who wants to see everything that is out there to do with magic which is fair enough. Any further questions please feel free to PM me. |

Interesting. I had my tailor create three of Dan's SD's for me from the video and I still use them in my comedy club act. My kidshow act character wears a vest. My tailor and I adapted part of the concept to my character vests, but we couldn't get it to work to my satisfaction for anything larger than a deck of cards or cell phone - but it works convincingly well for those items.
I personally like Suspended Dimension and the video has paid for itself many, many times over. Of course, the look and method fit my performance character style beautifully.

I enjoyed the SD idea and DVD very much. Haven't had one made yet, and probably won't until I can find someone in the Virginia/DC area that I'm confident can make it correctly, but the invention does seem to add something important to the range of choices in topit work. Really, Dan Sylvester's idea seems just crazy enough to preempt consideration of the method by most normal folks. The vanishes look great in Sylvester's hands.
You could use the SD in conjunction with a Workeroo or Silent Butler, if you chose, to expand the possibilities further and be able to effectively execute the move at any point in front of your body.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.
