Just say no. If you have not done anything like this before, and you are on a timetable to learn. Don't get involved. Change the date or have someone with experience 'fill in' for you. This is one that can kill you. Just say no.

How high are you gonna be?...thats a weird question to ask. Kind of like how pregnant do you want to be?
If you are upside down, the rigging will be the same.....not hey I'm only 15' in the air, no need to have a better harness. Just my $.02 Kevin

Height as in Diffrent types of Harnesses Used etc. and diffrent ways to bind the feet. there is the Teepee version that Manzini used on the tonight show about 20 years ago along with a safety helmet on and yet he was only a few inches from the ground.

Just to through my tuppence into the height thing:
Lets say you are upside down, hanging from your ankles, strapped in the jacket: At only 3 - 5 feet: A sudden fall is likely to result in a serious spinal compression injury as you are like to land on the top of your head. Paralysis is a strong possibility. A hard surface is also likely to cause serious head injuries. This could range from serious concussions, right through to loss of mental and motor functions, or even death. 6 - 10 feet: Possibly better than falling at a lower height. Why? Because you have the chance to rotate in the air and avoid landing on your head. Not necessarily though! Plus there are a variety of other likely injuries such as broken limbs, ribs and internal shock injuries. 10 - 40 feet: Getting into the likely death or serious injury zone, here you will have to be very lucky to walk away from a fall, and if you live, to ever walk again. 40 feet plus: Forget it. You will need a miracle to survive. The bottom line is height makes little or no difference to the harness, it has to be the best, all the time. This is for a video right? Talk to industrial access companies and get a harness that is suitable for using upside down. Do not use a standard climbers sit harness, you can fall out of these if inverted. You can get ankle harness from bungee companies, but these should only be used alongside a full body harness as a back up. To be honest you really should be doing this with a bungee company anyway. They understand the dangers of lifting people, rather than just 'stuff', they have all the harnesses AND they know how to attach them correctly. Yep, they will cost money, but how much is you life worth to you? Cheers David

You might have to have something custom made. see that is why I was asking about the height thing. you might want a mat etc to cushion your fall

The one to try to contact on this is female magician Dorothy Dietrich. She has done the upside down from a burning rope several times, (from cranes, parachute rides, etc.) including a HBO Special "The World's Greatest Escapes" with Steve Baker in which she got "Special Added Attraction" billing. She is one of the few to accomplish this and the only woman. Randi has had several things go wrong, but to my knowledge did not get hurt. If I recall he failed to get out of a Strait Jacket on The Johnny Carson Show, a death blow to anyones ego. I believe he was to do a Safe Escape on the above mentioned HBO Special that went bad, and was cut from the show. Also, once in a show in Long Island he was doing a levitation and as the female assistant was rising in the air, SHE fell off the board.
