Apart from this, he delivers a couple of great lines very disarming, like, f.ex. to 'authograf' the restored thread..there are many more.. (*What about a cardtrick?...Oh..you want me to do it?* -together with his mime and acting a very great line!) Smal bits and pieces that make a great performance!!! Talking about a 'robot' isn't quite fair, because a lot of performers with established material, will use the same handling/phrases over and over again.. What about 'Slydini', one of the guys I always liked and admired? Actually, in my mind I called 'him' an 'automat' which is the same as a 'robot' , but I didn't think of this in a negative way Lonnies style is *different* from the often joke-cracking kind of entertainer, but it's likable and no doubt goes over very well with audiences, as he's not the 'pushy'-type, which f.ex. I am Michael Ammar is a talker! He talks too much..he's an outstanding magician and sleight of handster, a great idea-man and performer, but he talks/babbles constantly, I almost can't stand his long drawn out patter when he performs.. This doesn't lessen my admiration for him as a performer in general, it is just a point I noticed and don't like that much..just my own view on this! What I like the most re presentation (this is only my own favourite look at things) is the way Albert Goshman used..he interacted constantly with sole 'smal' remarks with his audience..no long drawn out stories, no stories at all, he interacted by asking questions and responded to them.. Watch Fred Kaps doing close-up, he too avoided silly stories and interacted by asking questions/ adressing his specs aso.. Performers are different and thank God for that

Well said Werner...Performers are in fact different, and there are certain ones that just don't appeal to me (Jay Sankey). It might be because I'm so used to Greg Wilson's energetic and humorous presentation style, but I do enjoy the occasional "dry style" magicians, such as John Bannon. As I mentioned earlier, don't let this hold you back from purchasing this DVD because you will be missing out on pure gold!

Jay,
I agree. But I know Lonnie and have seen him work for real people. Its an entirely different experience. I think the whole 'mis en scene' on the DVDs comes off a bit stiff, which I commented on in my review at mylovelyassistant.com. But, just so people don;t get the wrong idea, Lonnie has a great rapport with his audiences and his style plays very naturally in real life. But yes, on the DVD's things do seem stiff. |

Can anybody comment on the difference between Lonnie's bill change and Juan Pablo's?

Lonnie's touches include: a logical and entertaining patter story, a great way to get into the effect in front of the spectators (starting with hands empty, works surrounded), finesses on preparing the bills so as to prevent flashing, and finesses on working the effect itself. Basically, Lonnie has made the effect extremely practical to do in the real world--a hallmark of all the effects on his DVDs. |

I take it that Counterfeiter can't be done with a borrowed bill?

The DVD are terrific, especially vol I. Just one quick question. Have any of you had any particular luck with finding the correct bottle for "Two Bits in a Bottle". I've been using a Max Factor bottle that is almost right, but gravity allows the coin to fall before I might like.
Any one had better luck? |

Lonnie's DVD's are simply wonderful. Or should I say, simple and wonderful? Every inch of each routine has been thought out, and every move has a reason. This is refreshing in times where "knuckle busting" sleight of hand is the craze. Good magic doesn't always have to be hard to do, and it is great to see a concentration on method over moves. Both DVD's are filled with good effects that have been made more powerful with Lonnie's touches. I live in Lonnie's hometown and have been lucky to see him perform in person several times. In fact, he was the first to actually get me interested in the art. His magic is even more powerful in person! These DVD's must become a staple in anyones magical library!!! Great work Lonnie. It is great to see such a great person having so much success.

Hey everyone:
I am picking up volume 1, but it appears that the bill switch on vol. 2 is the only real notable trick on that volume. My question is, for those of you familiar with both methods or have seen both performed, is it worth buying vol. 2 for the bill switch if I have Sean Field's new infnity switch on its way? thanks |

Smacks123, "worth" is subjective but my answer is yes. To put things in perspective, though, I disagree with your conclusion that this effect is "the only real notable trick on that volume."
