I have been giving this a little thought, about doing a tape escape. Now, from what I have read in the past, and the most current is from HelenHeld, is using Gaffer's tape...then there is also reference to duct tape. Ok, well, I have done some research on Gaffers tape, and one thing is it is very expensive, like $25 US dollars for a 60 yard roll, 3 inches wide. Duct tape, has like 30 different styles and you can get it for about $3 a roll on up.

Gaffer's tape does not leave a mark, in fact, you can tape a wall, put a lamp on it for a day, and peel the tape, and it will not ruin the paint job. Duct tape, no idea, but I am sure it will peel the paint job and leave residue whereas Gaffer's tape does not.

So, any pro's and cons vs different tapes? What would be an inexpensive version of Gaffer's tape in the duct tape world? Thanks for your help.

Gaffa tape isn't cheap, and cheap versions of the stuff are the pits (they tear too easily, shed glue, make a huge mess and are murder to remove cleanly), but $25US does seem a bit excessive; I generally expect to pay about £4-5 for a decent size roll of duck, gaffa or elephant tape, and I use it for all sorts of things.

Actually thinking about it, did you look at ?

What they call "Gaffer's tape" may be something else, and what I'm describing could actually be duct tape. Gaffa (as distinct from Gaffer, the fella who fixes the stuff together on a film set) is a brand of tape here in blighty; it's shiny, strong and tears easily across. Like sellotape, the brand is dominant enough that it has entered parlance when people mean that sort of tape in general.
