Congratulations to Mark Cannon, Robert Gallop and everyone else (James Randi among them) who took part in a very interesting and informative show related to Escapology last night as part of the BBC's Magic series.
It gave nothing away but sold the art to a new audience. Special note should go to Mr Cannon for his "Slightly worried and getting more hysterical by the second" stage manager during Mr Gallops box escape. (You both scared the heck out of my folks!) |

It was on last night in the UK. It covered among other things,
Houdini (a short biography) His Scotland Yard escapes The Milk Can The water torture cell Suspended Strait Jacket escapes Buried Alive (lots of focus on the risks) and modern escapes No secrets were exposed and the danger element of what can go wrong was highlighted. The show ended with Mr Gallops superior use of a clear plastic box and the banks of the river Thames. No news as to when it will be transmitted in the USA but keep an eye out for it on DVD. |

Hi Stuart, I am glad to hear that at last the show has aired on TV, I am looking forward to receiving a copy to see what went to air. Robert was nice enough to show me some uncut footage as I designed the plexiglass box. The box was then built overseas so I was dead keen to see how it went. Knowing that Robert had injured his hand quite badly the day before- ( Mark Tripp’s last post fit well here, quote ”injured or not. No one in the audience cares about YOUR problems. They want to see the miracles they have heard about.”) Mark Cannon’s comments and actions were very serious indeed. Mick Hanzlik (recognised as one of the UK's leading authorities on Houdini) was also there lighting the flaming spears that Robert could have been impaled on.
Robert Gallup had a parting comment for David Blaine, was that in or edited out? Congratulations Robert Gallup, another successful escape. Ian McColl

O U T S T A N D I N G!
THIS is what we need, not the silly old "if someone else is doing this it makes me smaller". ANY effective showing of our art, lifts ALL of us! BRAVO to ALL involved! |

No they kept it all.
They show'd Mark's cut hand in the rehursal and the kept the 'Eat my shorts' line as he came down the rope. They also kept his introduction along the lines of "I know what you are thinking, American with a clear plastic box by the River Thames, 'looser', but this different..." It was very well performed and I would like to clarify that I was not trying to decrying Mark for how he acted, rather trying to emphasise that at least two viewers got the fact he was very concerned as the time ran down.(My poor choice of words again, opps). |

Hi Stuart, thanks for that added info. I am glad they kept the lines in, it should have made it a bit more fun.
I only added how Mark reacted because I know he was truly concerned, the earlier days events made sure of that and Mark was the safety officer. A big responsiblity especially if it had of gone wrong and Robert was all over London and not meaning just on the telly. Ian

Did anyone here tape it? I've seen all the others so far in the series but totally forgot it was on.
Here's hoping, Ros (kicking himself)

This was a truly international event. Robert Gallup from Australia, Mark Cannon from California, Ian McColl from Australia, and me from good old England. It was a joy to work on, and I think it worked out really well. I have heard loads of comments from regular people saying how exciting it was.

Hi, I have just been able to watch the whole program with help from my good friend Mick Hanzlik. I thought the documentary was well put together. Some rare or rarely seen footage was included and it featured many stars of the escape world than those mentioned above.
Alan Alan, Tom Lyon, Thomas Solomon and Peter McCahon were there also. Sid Radner and James Randi talking about the life of Houdini and a few I people I wish to know more about. The section on the dangers of the buried alive pointed out with footage of The Amazing (late)Joe Burrurs (spelling) Great work and a must for EA fans. Ian

Now days both. Problem is to get our Channels to show things like this. We, every now and again, get something like Paul Zennon, David Blaine, Derren Brown, etc. on one of the channels, but that is like once, maybe twice a year. We do have a DSTV setup, but I am not sure if, for example, the BBC channel we get here is the same as the one shown overseas.

Hi, for those who saw the BBC's Dangerous Escape documentary, you may have been wondering who was in the straitjacket they showed in closeup and who was picking the Hiatt Ultimate handcuffs. It was Tom Lyon Shame you are too tall to get your head in shot, but we now all know it was you (now). Great work.
So young and yet so famous. regards Ian
