MMM I started like that in that precise order:
Bobo's book ("modern coin magic") wich is essential to start with, David Roth "Expert coin magic" I would sugest "Coinmagic" by kaufmann (reedited by genii magazine) then I went for Kainoa hardbottle "Coin on edge" and "Cointopia" "Knuckle buster" series by Reed "unexpected Visitor" by douglas Brewer "DesTROYer" by Troy hooser Look also at coinvanish.com, you'll find valuable information. And I'm desperetly waiting for Jon's manuscript... But Just start with Bobo's... Hope that helps, Ludwig
I'm just a blind Con that lost his I...

The books listed above are all great.
You mentioned you prefer DVDs. I recomment Roth's Expert Coin Magic Made Easy for learning sleights and routines. There are three volumes. Michael Rubinstein's Encyclopedia of Coin Sleights is an excellent reference for sleights, it not only shows how to do a number of sleights and moves, it gives many variations so you can find the variation that best suits your style. There are no routines however. This also comes in three volumes. I have Bobos, Expert Coin Magic, and CoinMagic (all books) and the DVD sets I mentioned above. I use the DVD's to see what the sleight or move looks like, then I use the books to learn from. Also be sure to search for similar links or go through the threads in the coin magic section. Hope this helps. Gene Gene |

Perhaps not for the beginner, but Curtis Kam's excellent DVDs from his "Palms of Steel" series ("Fists of Fury" and "Silverado"...as well as the mysterious original "Palms of Steel" only available on VHS) are must-haves for the serious coin worker. Even if the routines seem daunting, they will give you something to shoot for. Augmenting them with Dr. Rubenstein's series of DVDs on coin sleights will be quite a library already!

Why not "Revolutionary Coin Magic" by Jay Sankey, pretty good source for learning coin magic

When I first started coin magic, my first book was "Modern Coin Magic" by J.B. Bobo. This is has been called the coin workers bible, and unlike a lot of books, this one is easy to understand, although the effects will require some good practice on your part. I reccomend Bobo's book for anyone getting started with coin magic.

Hi everyone,
Please notice that Skycrapper wrote: "can you give me a suggestion on good resource TO BEGIN? " So, to begin, I strongly suggest Michael Ammar's "Introduction to Coin Magic" DVD, and/or the David Roth's "Expert Coin Magic Made Easy" volume 1,2,3 (all on 1 DVD) and/or David Stone's "Coin Magic" volumes 1,2 on DVD. Go to http://www.coinvanish.com/ and clck on "Product Reviews" (on the left side) and have a look for complete reviews of these titles and others, be sure to also check the 2001 & 2002 archives. (it is an excellent website by the way!!!) Some of the material listed above is for intermediate to really advanced (like Reed McClintock, Kaiona Hardbottle and Curtis Kam... these 3 have excellent material BUT it is mostly knuckle-busting!!! Which requires some YEARS of practice before you can attain that level.) And of course the book "Modern Coin Magic" by Bobo (Dover edition) is really cheap and is considered as the BIBLE of coin magic, so it is almost a required item. This should help you get started in the right direction. But do not take my word for it, you really should use the "search" function of this forum (top right corner) and see for yourself!
