What, in your opinions, would be the most difficult binds to escape from? Please, no elaborate things like, escaping from handcuffs while blades shoot across and a giant ball is rolling your way and you are sitting on an ant nest, etc. Just simple binds that you find to be difficult. Eg. Cable ties, handcuffs, ropes, chains, etc. I now have laymen views, magician's views and I am interested to find out the escape artist's views.
Here are the views of others. (what they think are the 4 most difficult things to escape from) Laymen - Handcuffs, cable ties, straight jacket, ropes Magicians - Cable ties, straitjacket, duct tape, chains

That is a good one, Steve. I have found that to be very difficult indeed. You are the first person to mention that as a difficult escape to me. I normally neglect to mention that when telling people what I have escaped from in hope that they do not ask me to escape from that. I have escaped from fishing line once before but I did cut myself many times (in that 1 escape)quite badly. *Shudder* Not something I like to think back on.
Thanks for your post. Regards Wolflock

Bailer twine (The orange plastic type). Bungee cord (If applied tightly is next to impossible to escape from).

I've never tried this nor have I seen it done, but...
Several layers of that plastic wrap they wrap around pallets when they're being shipped. The stuff that shrinks up and keeps it everything together. I used to have to unload trucks, and that stuff is next to impossible to do anything with unless you cut it. |

Well, I figured it had already been done. Never claimed to be original. lol What about being wrapped in barbed wire then? It should be relatively safe until you start to move, then the barbs begin to tear at you....

I'm not sure about the Barbed wire but I'm sure maybe someone has done it but what a twisted mind they might have to have to do it or even think of it.

I escaped from Bungee cord once, it was bloody tight and painful too. I escaped using the T------ w---- method. I got out fairly easily (though painfully) and I have always wondered how skilled the fellow was who applied it.
I've not speant too much time looking at bungee cords, does anyone know of a skill to applying them as a restraint"?

Houdini did barbed wire in a chapter of The Master Mystery.

I have done stretch wrap escapes before, and I have been challenged to use 120 guage wrap (probably going to accept around Christmas time). I guess the thicker the wrap, the harder.
I finally tried a duct tape escape, thanks to Helenheld, and the first attempt went much easier than I thought. My friends have said that I should try both stetchwrap and duct tape...that, could be a very difficult escape with just using the body to escape (no sharp objects). PS, don't give my friends any ideas of barbed wire. |

I have escaped from 150M of cling wrap wrapped around my whole body, it is easy to get out of if you:
1. Have a small body like mine. 2. Do your breathign correctly. I have escaped from barbed wire. I did injure myself slightly, but found that unless spectators have some kind of mechanism to help them, they cannot actually tighted the barbed wire fully. This I think is a nice tip to help those of you thinking of escaping from barbed wire. Razor wire on the other hand is a different story all together. I have not tried to escape from that yet. When I do, I will tell you all about it. What, if I may ask, is Bailer twine? Is that the stuff used in Weed wackers?

Baler twine I beleive is used to tie up the bales of hay in it looks like a big square block of hay

Baler twine is exactly what the name implies. It is a twine that is either natural fibers (sisal) or synthetic fibers (polypropylene). They come in different tensile strengths according to needs and making some easier to break than others. The twine comes on very large spools to be used by various baling machines (machines that make round bales or square/rectangle bales).
Note that some hay baler’s don’t actually use twine per se. They use baling wire. Interestingly, there is a “Daredevil’s Manual”, written by Ben Ikenson, in print and available to the general public through most book sellers. It explains several escapes, including the wrapped in industrial strength, plastic wrap. The drama of the escape is heightened by having the breathing tube (snorkel) plugged when of the wrapping process (including the head and face) is complete. You can see it listed at: Click Here!
