Interesting what people do to get some laughs in TV.
What was the title ? "How not to do a Texas Chainsaw Massacre" ? For magic too lousy and for a horror movie too simple. Ah, I get it: that was probably a trial run for the next Candid Camera. |

The Johnny Eck sawing was done by Rajah Raboid. If was only done a few times before Johnny and his brother quit when Raboid didn't pay them.
Penn & Teller are currently doing the most gruesome and darkly funny version of sawing in their show at the Rio in Las Vegas. They have to get a new showgirl every night, but Vegas has a lot of them. |

My vote goes to Richiardi for the most realistic. If you really cut someone with a big saw, it would be bloody, with entrails flying out everywhere. It would be a horrible gruesome sight. Which is exactly what he gives you!
He also does a decapitation of a person. That is extremely graphic. Unlike any other head chopper you will ever see. No fancy stocks to hide extra stuff in. Just a person bent over a wooden chopping block. Their head resting on top. Richiardi walks over with a blade held high over his head and he thrusts it down onto the neck of the person bent over the block. The head pops off the body, and rolls across the floor. The body falls limp and lifeless into a heap next to the chopping block. It really looks like he cuts this ladies head off. Their is Youtube video of both of these items. Chad |

Gene de Jean actually built the cutting that Tony Spina uses (or used.) It is shown on the front of the DJ of the Byron Wels illusion book.
Back when Tony was still running Tannen's, I called there once and mentioned that I was from Houston. Immediately, Tony asked me if I knew Gene, who had built the illusion for him. I told him that Gene was a very close friend of mine, and I would tell him hello for Tony. I got good service at Tannen's when Tony was running it.

Normally, I don't go for Copperfield, due to the emphasis on bally stunts, but his performance of Fearson's invention was amazing! Organic, clean, realistic... beautiful!
Gene's Chopping was amazing, as well. Gene was great, great guy, true artist and creator. In his heyday, it was like watching Channing! JF |

The Pendragon's Clearly Impossible is the one I like best. Also up there are Brett Daniel's version, Peter Marvey's "sideways" version and a version showed in TV5 France where the girl is split apart standing up (maybe after Instant Babe). And one that I really like is Copperfields's "The Blade"

My vote goes for the Wakeling Sawing.
Always in the contemporary spectator's perception of the real on stage. Not for the blood. (Sure I'm not in the right section for that, anyway) Like for a movie, spectators know it's not real. Since it's a magic show, spectators know you will PRETEND to make it looks dangerous. Whatever if you are gore, softcore, poetic (?) they know at some point you'll pretend to some kind of an accident (because it's a magix show!) With the Wakeling, you only do what you pretend to do (which is weird enough): cutting a woman in half and restore her. It's all about the conditions more than the girl. If doing the Pavel's Walking Knot with a chainsaw will make the cutting of the rope more realistic. The magic is happening in the spectator's mind. This is where it should be realistic. They know for sure the girl will be restored at the end. The rest is distraction from the "fairnest" of the effect. In my opinion, a drop of blood beside the nostral at the end of a difficult "escape" (Metamorphosis,...) and good acting of course is more worrisome than a clownisn display of blood. |

But in the Gore, juicy, Kenny style around running around cul-de-jatte (remember Kenny, on his skateboard, I miss those times...) I think the Criss Angel girl on the park bench is really disturbing. I've seen it a few times as joke-spaming from layman friends or family. I think he's got more than a million hits on Youtube with that. People got disturb for sure.
