REY-REY – “I am going to say one thing and keep my mouth shut...maybe? The course/information "we have been talking about" DOES NOT have the “conditional” guarantees you’ve noted and implied Rey Rey. Sure there are “some” that do, (as Jim pointed out) but in THIS conversation, it is not applicable so far since Dave offers a full 100% “UNCONDITIONAL” money back guarantee! The Guarantee is SIMPLE: You don’t like it or don’t want it anymore… simply send it back and get your money back. What could be more fair & honest??? EASY! I wish we could stay on track here… oh well. Quote:
Bill Blagg III – “Many good points have been made in this thread. I would seriously recommend for you to also check out the marketing books written by Dan Kennedy. If you take the time to read through some of them you will find that a certain someone's marketing system is pretty much a direct take from Dan. Slighty modified of course.” Truth be told, yes, Dave (with permission & Endoresment) used some of the Dan Kennedy stuff along with 'lots' of others and his own real life experience. So, here what he’s done: Spent THOUDANDS and thousands of dollars (LOTS more than the piddly amount of his course!) on live trainings, books and functions! He has personally invested WITH Dan Kennedy in his inner circle program, went to jillions of other TOP, “result getting” marketers and trainings, tested, apllied, and had his own real live experiances and then put it into a consise, proven course for us for less than a couple “hundred” dollars… Like less than .01% of his real monied investments! Hmmmm, who got the best side of that deal? WE did! - Woo Hoo! If you don’t LIKE him… fine, say so and be done with it. “IF” you have is course and “actually 'DID' all he said to do”, and still didn’t get the results promised (which nobody yet has taken THAT challenge honestly!) then send it back for you money... no questions asked! You STILL get to “keep” what you learned! You will never be able to return that. We’ve all thought that we’ve wasted time by not making the right choices… that is just LIFE! But what would happen if you simply do NOTHING? – A full life of regrets and inaction me thinks! Quote:
BILL BLAGG III – “Bottom line is...you have to do the work. So many people spend endless amounts of time talking about what they're going to do and they never do anything. To me the formula is simple....have a GOOD, SOLID show.....and perform it. Word of mouth can work wonders and really set a performer into a nice comfortable place.” I think we ALL agree on that… - Take ACTION! - Have a solid show! …but the reason most can’t rely on “word of mouth” (which IS GREAT marketing, agreed.) is the SAME reason they are buying these success courses in the first place. I mean really guys! Again, I will direct your attention to the fact that there are TOO many “Starving Artists” to count! GREAT act… starving cuz of exactly what we are talking about. A good “ACT” is NOT ENOUGH by itself! PROVEN! Yes, we all agree it is 'essential', but a good act ALONE will NOT make you a living, let alone a lifestyle in this industry! As stated time and time again… you MUST do and be ALL the things necessary to have lasting success! WHY are we still going 'round on this? Quote:
BILL BLAGG III – “Too many people spend time trying to "fluff" the truth of their performance. They tell everyone how great they are, etc, etc. We've all seen it. Be honest with your clients, deliver what you promise, price fair, and good things will happen.” It is sad, but TRUE that there are some dishonest and unscrupulous performers out there who do, in fact, have a less than quality act. This is where market forces kicks in… they simply DO-NPOT get hired again and “the word” get out JUST as it does for the quality professional. Too, ther are folks who TRULY belive that they have a great act! We wer all kids with cards that said so, right? Come-on... be honest! The SAME market principles apply in either event. “Good news travels fast… bad news travels even FASTER!” and will ultimately “tell” on them just as it does in “positive word of mouth”. My question is, what he heck does this have to do with THIS topic and conversation??? Unless you mean to imply that it it the “fault” of the course writers… but surly THAT CAN-NOT BE THE CASE. Myself, Jim, Dave. Millard and other simply “write” the courses. In our courses we ALL say that we have to assume that each of you have a product/show/speech worth watching/marketinf I the first place, and attached is a "WARNING" (at least in my case for sure!) for those the wish to use these tested, tried and true success insight and experience to “manipulate” the market with a lousy “act” to NOT EVEN TRY... what else would you expect, there are “not nice” people out there too. This too is part of life. Quote:
StarrPower: - “The Dean: Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark. My friend, you are an intelligent, astute professional and I respect you and your immense contribution to magic and the arts, but you KNOW exactly what I said and what I meant brother to be true, and it is well beneath you to try such silly tactics to simply make some sort of erroneous “point”. Smile at me brothert while you read this... Besides, I CAN, in fact prove what you refer to as a “negative”. I am NOT skinny…SEE there, I did it again! it just is what it is, yet 100% PROVABLE. Not my logic askew buddy. ...and STILL "NOT" the point! I NEVER said that I lived in Dave’s market, nor that I was representing a first-hand accounting of “way back then”. Only that I happen to know some very reputable performers who do/did live and work in the area and confirmed that his marketing is 100% true. THESE were The “Horses Mouths” to which I refer… no big deal really. I was JUST “sharing”, no need for contention my friend. Funny how, as of this posting, no one here has taken advantage of the original offer… nope, not one. Too, the point has to be made, separate from Dave Dee himself, you need NOT be the best to “teach” principles of success and have them be successful teachings. Tony Robbins is world famous for showing people how to be their best in very “specific” markets and yet has ZERO experience, let alone expertise in that market. PROVEN over and over, and over again! ONE simple example: He (Tony) has taken federal agents/military personel and shown them how to be “expert marksmen” and yet HE (Tony) had virtually zero working knowledge, or real-life “experience” in shooting a gun let alone being an EXPERT marksmen. How is THAT possible?? I DO know the answer, as I’ve staffed and trained with Tony and many others in the peek development/performance industries, and the point is still valid. I am in no-way suggesting that DAVE (or any one of us here) has done this in magic & the arts, but it still demonstrates beyond a shadow of a doubt that one doesn’t necessarily HAVE to be the BEST to share with other “how to be the BEST” and BE super successful. Anyway… I digress as well. => Bottom line: - Does what is offered WORK? (Whether you LIKE it or it is/is not your “style”) Based on what "evedence". (Dave has plenty... They are called super happy clients! JUST LIKE the rest of us!) - Is your product/act “worthy” of such powerful marketing? (WITH integrity!) - Are you willing to “Do What It Takes” to have and enjoy the outcomes you want, need and desire? - Are you willing to invest in yourself and a person and a growing business professional? Risks are a basic part of life… that too is WHY there ARE such things as 100% “UNCONDITIONAL” Money Back Guarantees! (Especially in THIS example!) IF you are smart… you are gunna; spend your time trying/doing ‘something’ anyway, why not at-least apply what others have found PROVEN to WORK and be successful for themselves and others, so as to cut off some to the time and heartaches to have more of what you want… right? - Jim - Mark - Dave - Randy - Millard - Steve - Scott - Myself and so may others are ready willing an able to do just that, if you’ll allow us. If not, that’s ok too, but honestly, there is no need to be mad or mean about it, right? That is what is offered. I thought is/was a simple idea really. Live, Learn, Laugh & Love… eh’? I remain at your service and In HIS Service, Rev. Dean Hankey <>< Happy holydays to all who do!

Hey brother Rey...
Just tryin' to keep us on topic, FAIR and HONEST here... That is all. I didn’t say or mean anything "not nice" in any way, shape or form to you or anyone else here. My post have ALWAYS been to “share” success. If it is taken that way, PLEASE re-read my offering. I in no-way meant any malice. My apologies if it was taken personally or interpreted as anything less that a forthright share form my heart. Sure, I'm passionate, but you've always known this buddy! This sort of misunderstanding doesn’t happen LIVE face to face. (Lucky for you, since I have a face for Radio! Hehehe!) You can't hear my voice and see my face while communicating... kind of a handicap here I guess. We all good... just "sharing". I am, as always, at your service and In His Service, Deano <><

To clarify and then I'm resting my position. Yes, the marketers of the various sales courses in magic all agree you must perform the work. However, I feel that sometimes their direct ads, letters, etc. create a false impression that any performer with a good show can make A LOT of money. Almost misleading in a way to make it seems as though all the work necessary is outlined in easy to follow steps. Not necessarily the case. I feel that sometimes the manner in which performers are coached into writing their direct sales letters causes many people to stray from their act and true abilities. Instead performers find themselves trying to make these awesome crafty sales letters to see if they too can generate the same results. I've discussed this with others and many share the same opinions.
Sure warnings and disclaimers are fine because results with ANYTHING vary. It's all up to individual interpretation and one set person can't control that for the majority. They can influence and imply through the power of suggestion supported with facts and relevant references but that is where it stops. If I were selling a product I would offer the same. It's just logical. All in all, I'm saying that many people tend to look at the mighty dollar and lose sight of what's important and crucial here. How can you blame them when all of the headlines and sales pitches are telling them they they too can be rich and successful? Don Wayne once asked me what I considered successful...great question since it's different for everyone. You can be famous and not successful, you can have lots of money and not be successful. People first need to define what success is to them so then they have a point to work from. However, many teach to make a business plan first, state your goal (usually financial in nature), then define market, etc. Maybe the logical first step should be for each person to create a detailed definition of success in their terms. In closing, I would disagree that a solid show and word of mouth is alone not enough to make someone a comfortable living. I know many performers who have a GREAT commercial act and make very nice livings that they are very satisfied with. They don't send out sales letters, it's all word of mouth and they stay extrememly busy. Heck look at Lance Burton, he had a great act, and word of mouth brought him where he is today. He never sent out videos, brochures, etc. He's a great example. All in all, there is a lot of opportunity for "great" acts out there, the problem is most are "good" at best. Maybe working on the show and less time on sales letters might be a good place to start. |

Bill, “success course or no course”, you ABSOLUTELY CAN in fact make a LOT of money in this business… I do, Jim does, Dave does, Steve Does and so do LOADS of others we have helped… that is not al all misleading. The caveat is… YOU must “Do What It Takes” to earn it. How much more plain can I be??? Quote:
BILL: - “All in all, I'm saying that many people tend to look at the mighty dollar and lose sight of what's important and crucial here.” That, my friend is the MAGIC of EACH Individual here and elsewhere and is well outside of our control. We should NOT all be “lumped together” in on broad brush stroke for the sake of making your point. For me personally, I am CLEAR what is a priority and what is not. My God, My Wife, My Family and waaaaay down the list is that puny little thing called money. It is for THAT reason, in part, that I believe I have been so incredibly blessed in this and other venture I attend to. I KNOW what is important. Quote:
BILL: - “How can you blame them when all of the headlines and sales pitches are telling them they they too can be rich and successful? Because Bill… we CAN be! WHY on the world would you dare steal that dream and reality from someone! I agree, and as I’ve said… I Too am not a huge fan of the Sales Letter for booking shows, but that is NOT the ONLY thing offered or suggested, even though, like it or not, it has PROVEN itself to work in spades! It’s not my cup o’ tea either, but the FACTS are still that facts! How is any of this still confusing??? Quote:
BILL: - “In closing, I would disagree that a solid show and word of mouth is alone not enough to make someone a comfortable living. I know many performers who have a GREAT commercial act and make very nice livings that they are very satisfied with.” Brother Bill, disagree all you wish, but the facts are still the facts! Yes, I certainly know lots of professionals who make good money with out sending out a single sales letter… I do not send out sales letters either, and I will clearly make it through the winter! (Hehehehe!) RE-READ what I posted… your “mis-interpretation” is not even close! Unfortunately, no matter how you may “disagree”, or even personally “feel” about any of all this, there are Waaaaaay more performer “out of work” (The Starving Artist) than there are working, let alone even FULL TIME. ( a VERY small percentage by far!) That is in part the REASON these success courses exist in the first place! How much of this don’t you seam to “get”? Of course we ALL know guys who work… Duh! But the numbers are still way far-in-away against the performer who actually makes a living, let alone killer lifestyle in this business. It is just the FACTS of what IS, brother Bill. Quote:
BILL: - “Heck look at Lance Burton, he had a great act, and word of mouth brought him where he is today. He never sent out videos, brochures, etc. He's a great example.” I’m sorry Bill… you are once again incredibly mis-informed! This is a blatant bit of propagation of the UN-TRUE. As I said elyer, about Lance (If you’d just READ it.) that LANCE “earned” his way to the top, and YES he had a great act, but it was the BUSINESS that got him the gigs. I’ve had and seen his promotion, so I KNOW form first hand experience that he DID, in fact use marketing to get where he got. Truth be told, there are other guys who have as good and better act who still STARVE… no matter how many famous guys you choose to bring up as “one-off” examples of great acts when so many other GREAT ACTS still starve! Too there are LOUSY act that WORK all day long! Where does THAT place your unfounded theory?? And as I said, unfortunately THEY (The ones that actually DO-NOT WORK full time in Magic!) are in the majority unlike our friend awesome and amazing Lance. Here is the POINT of this entire thread and exorcise: Places like this and others around the net are for “sharing” thoughts, REAL experiences, insights, ideas and so on. That is all we’ve done here too. The coolest part is, “We can AGREE to Disagree, agreeably!” based on our respective experience. I hope you understand my heart an passion for the truth and for the success of others, but in order for this to happen long term, we MUST be Fair, HONEST and forthcoming with each other… that has been my task in this discussion. Have an awesome day, week, month, year and career! I am, as always, at your service and In HIS Service, Deano in Reno <><

All I can say is that I too can be added to that list. I have not even hit the tip of the iceburg on the marketing that I have learned and still have yet to try and this year alone, just based on a few ideas and concepts DOUBLED my last year income and did less shows doing so. In my book that is success and I am enjoying every minute of it. I am all geared up for an even better 2005. Kyle

Before Dave Dee's books, before Randy Charach's books, before Jim Snack's books, I was part of a corporate layoff in 2001 with a little name recognition as an entertainer and no idea how to stay self-employed as a full-time entertainer or market myself. Within 2 years after reading these fellows' courses in 2002 and applying something from each of them, I brought my income back up to what I was making in my old job, but my day is over by noon now, I'm my own boss, and I bought a house earlier this year in an area I wasn't sure I'd even be able to afford given my choice of a career.
There's no "This Is THE Answer" any any of these books, but there are many great answers and sometimes great questions that will help you advance your career if you apply even a fraction of what is in them. |

Thanks, Dean & Kyle - I've been watching you guys actually walk your talk for a while now, and take Action - so I really appreciate your kind words.
Another book that really gave me an A-HA! moment was Napoleon Hill's "PMA Science of Success Course", his 17-lesson course textbook that is also part of the Napoleon Hill Foundation's college course on Success - I can tell you the page numbers that opened up a whole world of business for me. In fact, ANYTHING by Napoleon Hill is gold. Boy, did Think & Grow Rich change my life... Back to Dave Dee, I've had some contact with him that made me respect him for some things totally unrelated to magic. Some courses might be right for someone, and not for others, and I felt confident enough to invest in some of his offerings because I knew I could get my money back if I really felt I should. I've not been disappointed. The course I've used the least (so far) is John Kaplan's Fundraising Course, but that is just because I'm not doing that form of program right now - but again, it's all there if I do go in that direction. Was it worth it, though? You bet. |

That is great to see yet another person who took it upon themsleves to learn and read and take action upon what they read and applied it to their own unique situation. You learned to adapt these course ideas and made them your own.
But, you did not do it by sitting on your seat and waiting for the phone to ring. You made a conscious effort to go out there and take action to make it happen for yourself. Even if you get one great idea form a cource, it is worth the money invested in it. One gig booked from a simple tip in one system can pay for the entire system right there. And, you know as well as I know, there are far more great tips and suggestions then just 1. Many of these courses are just loaded with great information waiting for those who are serious about being successful and building their entertainment career. Thanks also for the many kind words. I do appreciate it. Kyle

AWESOME!!!
Napoleon Hill's "Big Book" is the BEST, but it certainly is NOT for the faint of heart. (Hehehehe!) Here is just one principle that impacted my life forever: "We are either "examples" or we are "Lessons" in this life. - Those who are "Examples" show us possibilities of what we are capable of and what we can be... - Those who are "Lessons" show us what to avoid and what we can't be... So the question is... which are we, each one of us, are we an "Example" or a "Lesson"? => Keep being an example of what is possible brothers! I am at your service and In HIS Service, Deano <><

Deano,
I'm going to agree to disagree. Plain and simple. Starving artists are obviously doing something "wrong" if poor quality acts are working all day long as you say and maybe a long jam session will help them discover the issue. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Jim Steineyer over dinner and ironically we discussed this very topic. Jim gave me a little book of sorts titled Advice. I suggest many of you out there reading this post acquire a copy of it if you're able. It was only published for private distribution by Lance and Jim. The "free" advice in the 32 pages is enough to set anyone on the right path with a career in magic. Best wishes to all of you working towards a career, but spending countless hours of time posting on forums, reading books, analyzing others, etc. won't get you anywhere. Action is what counts hence the reason you don't see the top pros on these boards analyzing, posting, etc. They're too busy working. |

Hi All,
I started this thread to gather other opinions on whether it would be worth it to join Dave Dee's inner circle. I've learned a whole lot just by eagerly following the comments from you all. Firstly I'll say it again, I don't belong to Dave Dee's inner circle. I do receive his emails on a very regular basis and learn a lot from them, as I do from several others that I receive. I just wanted to see who would join his inner circle. From reading the posts it looks like we have only one who actually is a member or who has bought Dave Dee's courses. Kyle has 24 posts in this thread alone, but actually has not bought Dave Dee's course. I know Dean has a close relationship with Dave Dee, having attended and participated in the recently held "Super Conference of the Melinniun". I understand where Dean is coming from as I am also a member of his site, which by the way I highly recommend. I've learned so much from there, and count it a privilige. I fully understand where his enthusiasm comes from. How about we try and take a poll of those who actually feel it's worth it to join such an inner circle?(that's the first question) Please also add if you already belong to something similar. (Something that you actually pay money to belong to) Lastly, is it worth joining this kind of inner circle for your magical business, NOT your show, BUT your magical business,,in other words does it pay for itself? If you don't belong and subscribe to such a thing, then please just answer no. PLEASE, no more aggreeing to disagree and long drawn out dialogue over this very important and huge subject, but rather a straight out simple answer to these last questions. So, three things. Simple enough? Fair enough? Here's mine: 1. No. Not in the present situation I'm in. 2. No 3. No. Not at the moment. Your's in magic, JoJo

JoJo,
The only reason I have posted so many times here is the fact that I know these systems and books have extreme value and I really believe in the power of successful marketing. I think this is why Dean has posted as much as he has as well. Although I do not have Dees system, I do have a lot of books from Dan Kennedy as well as own many other courses that are similar. They have all had value to me and I know they can work for anyone who wants to be serious about growing their magic business. To answer your direct questions now: - Yes, I feel there is value in such a group pending on what exactly they are offering by joining - No I do not belong to any similar group - Yes it probbably is worth it to join for my magical business depending upon my goals I set out for myself for 2005 Hope this helps. Hello all,
FIRST I want to apologize if anyone took “any” offense at my passion, points and posts. Those that know me, KNOW I’m not the ‘contrary’ type. Where it is true that I am pain stakingly HONEST, but not ‘contrary’. BIG difference. My passion is for YOUR success and the sometimes blatant, hard truth that some are not willing to lay on the line required to that end. I am here FOR YOU! I don’t make a dime whether YOU are more successful or not, and I do not NEED to share tested, tried and true success principles for any other reason than I am inwardly compelled to do so based on my blessing in this business. I’m sure, if you ask, the same is true of Jim, Steve, Mark and all the other guys who share here on a regular basis. It sure ain’t cus we need to sell another course or product. Each of us will make it just fine without a single sale in our Pay Pal account. PLEASE do NOT confuse “SUCCESS” with being BUSY. One has little to do with the other. THIS is where this discussion and others on “success education” comes in. Let me be CLEAR, I’m NOT alive to win any popularity contests. That simple does NOT help anybody become a better person let alone a better performer and success in business! (Find and read the 12 Riches as outlined by Napoleon Hill found in “The Master Keys To Riches”.) My goal has been and always will be to promote REAL, attainable, actionable success incites no matter how I ‘appear’ in the process. Sometimes the TRUTH is not easy or convenient… it is simply the TRUTH. Unfortunately, saying stuff like “word of mouth” will set you free, and a good act is all you need, (I’m paraphrasing, of course.) where it may be true over time… what about ALL the folks who want, need and deserve to work “right now” and have not invested 5, 10, 20 years in their markets for that cash cow to pay off yet??? All these good folks (the majority of folks by the way!) can’t simply rely on such strategies and it is simply irresponsible to suggest that that is the ONLY way to gain work, AND it is a disservice to all of magicdom, besides being patently untrue. YES, word of mouth IS powerful… YES and good act (I believe) is essential, but it is NOT the end-all be-all of marketing by a long shot. If that was true, none of us would have picture taken, web sites built, business cards designed and so on. There is no ONE “magic bullet” such as: ONLY an good act… ONLY word of mouth… ONLY a good web-site ONLY good customer relations… ONLY direct marketing… ONLY any ONE thing at all. Success and marketing is, as it is in success in life, requires BALANCE and multiple applications of the available mediums, right? And furthermore, to EACH some are more applicable that others for each individual, as it is for me and my own success outcomes. For me, my success is “largely” (not EXCLUSIVELY) due to my own “Re-Elationship Marketing” success applications… for others I coach and support, their success may be largely due to “Direct Marketing”, others still “The Phone” is there number one marketing weapon and the list goes on, but to EACH their own, and is NO-LESS valuable, exclusive or important. NO ONE is discounting any individual success stated! Quite the contrary… only that there ARE, in fact OTHER PROVEN success strategies and outcomes. I hope we are more clear and I hope that you can forgive me for my passion and zeal for the success of ALL who want it! I am honored to assist, support, any and all who wish for more success in their lives and business. I think that others here would offer the SAME. I hope we are now more clear and copasetic. Just for the record, yes I do own several of Dave's products (and would recommend them highly). I am not currently a member of his Inner Circle, but I am looking at it as a possibility for the coming year.
I am also a faculty member at The Dean's List (a HUGE honor for me by the way). As such I'm part of a very special "Inner Circle" or Mastermind Group. While there is no monetary "cost" to be involved, I can assure you the "investment" is quite large. The rewards are even higher. I do invest a decent percentage of my income in personal and professional development (and I'll be increasing that too). That may include books, tapes, courses, conferences, mentor programs, etc. The more knowledge, the better! The paltry sum of money I invest in these things pays me benefits most people can't even imagine. Look at it this way. There is most definitely NO "magic bullet". The more "tools" you have in your toolbox, the more likely you will be to be equipped to handle those "challenges" you face in your life and your business. There is a huge difference between "making a living" and "building a lifestyle". If you want to make a living, get a job. If you truly want to build a lifestyle, be prepared to "fork it over" because it ain't cheap! Is it worth it? Oh, HELL yes! If you haven't read it yet, I HIGHLY recommend Chris Carey's book "The Price and the Prize". If you aren't willing to "pay the price" for success, you won't get the rewards. That's just the way life REALLY works (whether you believe it or not). Scott |
