Anybody have an opinion on either Gregory
Wilson's Ring Leader or Doug Malloy's Ring N Wallet. I want to combine a borrowed ring on cord with the ring in wallet. I was thinking of doing Wilson's ring routine and adding a ring in wallet. I viewed a video of Malloys Ring N Wallet and it looks like a nice routine. Any opinions? |

I got Wilson's "Ring Leader" and it is a Video with a routine and then a lot of different effects that you can put together. A lot of tools to compose your own routine, great video.
Jay Scott Berry has a "RIng and Ribbon symphony" DVD. It's by so far the most elegant routine I've seen for stage work, Some of it can be used for close up as well. The master of his art - great DVD - contains Jay's full routine and the brilliant "master false thread" move. Don't know about Doug Malloys effect, but if you finish with the Clifton Ring move, you can just about palm the ring to any impossible location. The Clifton move is taught on both Gregory Wilsons and Jay Scott Berry's tapes/DVD's. Jan |

Check out Dan Fleshmans "Sonata for Ring and String"
Very Cool, plus Mr. Fleshman is a great guy! |

I would honestly go with Greg Wilson's Ring Leader video. You'll learn WAY more ring and string moves that you can build your own routine with. It's honestly a GREAT video because he gives 3 different routines of his own and offers a huge variety of ring and string moves including: sankey's ring on spoon, kicker endings with ring flight, and some pretty funny jokes to make it look like you throw their ring across the room. I've used a routine I made from that video for about 2 yrs now and I still LOVE it. All of the moves that I saw on the demo for Malloy's Ring and Wallet are on the Wilson video.
The only thing that the Malloy video offers more than the Wilson video is the "plastic" joke, a check to bill that he offers as sort of a throw away (which could be a seperate showpiece all together ala the $100 bill switch if you already know it), and a "card to wallet" wallet which you probably have already. The routine is nice but way to pricey for me. You can learn all that and more with the Wilson video which is priced at a whopping what $40 tops? Good luck! |

I may be repeating, but... Ring Leader will give you numerous moves, and a few complete routines, and its the "typical" price of a video. I have it and it is a great reference.
With Malloy's Ring N Wallet you get 1 routine, albeit a good one, and couple of gimmicked "bits," and (most importantly) a very nice load wallet. It's also about $180. I (assume) a good chunk of the $ is for the wallet, which loads an object inside a sealed envelope, inside the wallet! and is specifically designed accomodate the added width of a ring vs a card. I've seen it performed and like it a lot, but its a bit too pricy for me. |

Buy the video, it is an excellent resource to develope your own routine.
Dougs wallet is excellent and well worth the money I spent on it. That said. Do not buy it. Not until you develope your own routine. Then if you decide you want to end it that way, the wallet is well worth it. But please do not buy it and do Dougs routine, make it your own and use his wallet as a tool to create your own miracle.

Ok, I finally managed to see the video, and I have to say that besides I don't like the ending to the wallet (personal preference), I have to say that mr. Malloy does an extremely beautifull fake insertion of the thread to the ring. I've seen several insertion moves including Jay Scott Berry, Gregory Wilson, Daryl etc. but Malloy handling is so clean right in the open, so unless the string is gaffed/gimmicked which I assume it isn't then it's an extremely clever move. I would almost buy the routine just for this one move.

This seems like a better handling than the Wilson tape. However, I think he should do the clifton ring move in the end with one (two) smooth movements crossing the string over the back of his hand. He holds a pause midway in the move which lead me to think he is doing something(which he is) - but in a smooth movement I think it would be less apparent that something is about tho happen. Just my personal preference. |

I ended up purchasing the Malloy routine.
Great wallet, nice video instruction some extra bits of business. Also great service. I had a slight glitch with my order and one phone call and it was taken care of. Even sent me a little someting extra to make up for it. Super people! I'm still going to purchase the Wilson routine just to get some extra moves but all in all I'm very happy with Malloy's Ring N Wallet. |
