I've always loved 8 card brainwave, Dots Impossible, etc. but have always thought it could be even cleaner.
I've devised a way to do this type of effect completely clean. The following is exactly how it is performed and seen. Nothing added or taken away. I place eight different playing cards face up on a table. (any surface) I ask the spectator to gaze over the cards until they see one they like. Without the spectator saying a word, I have him immediately flip over every card except the one he's thinking of. Every back is blue. I then, without touching their card, ask them if it would be cool if the remaining card had a different colored back. They invariably say yes and they themselves flip their thought of card over. Sure enough, it's a different colored back. Without me coming anywhere near the cards, they can then immediately examine all eight cards. Remember, I never touch the cards after initially laying them on the table. I've also made up an 8 card packet that I'm considering marketing. It has different stick figures on the face. I tell them by their personality I know which stick figure they'll "like." Sure enough, it's the one with the different back. This plays just like the above description but with stick figure people. There is a gimmick involved that I stumbled across in a Radio Shack (probably many other stores) that makes this absolutely clean handling possible. If this gimmick/item is indeed something that's been applied to magic, I'd like to know. If you have seen it, the Radio Shack clue should be enough to tip you off.

If it really does exactly what you say, I'll buy it! And I don't even do card tricks. It just sounds like a really good trick.
I would prefer the version with the 'real' cards though. I always think people prefer to see tricks done with cards they recognise. Duncan

I discovered that it was a bit of a fluke that the Radio Shack I saw this in carried it. It's actually something you'd find in most antique shops.
I truly can't believe this gimmick/technique hasn't been applied to card magic somewhere. I'll keep researching.

Sounds nice. I would like to purchase one. Let me know when they come out, but you better do it quick or someone else will get the rights to it. LET ME KNOW.
I too would like to purchase one! Let me know! Sounds great, and much better than the standard 8 card brainwave!!! Josh |

I got to tell you, it does sound quite amazing. I haven't got a clue as to how it would work ... another sleepless night ahead.

Sounds really good! I thought I was getting somewhere by doing a sort of modified Elmsley-false count with the brainwave packet, showing only certain backs.

Still researching Platt?
Were the Stick men inspired by the Stick death site? It certainly SOUNDS very commercial if it can be produced at a reasonable price for a packet trick. And maybe a booklet could be supplied with other suggested applications/presentations. Probably better NOT done with playing cards. Paul. |

Congratulations! You have a winner (a word you hardly ever hear especially in a Casino... lol)
I really can't see it happen as described. If you are serious, sell me one (or demo over the internet). I would "Back" manufacture of this item. Anyway, great thinking! Alan

Wow, thanks for all the kind words. I've talked to some manufacturers and have received the sort of responses I didn't want to hear. Unfortunately it's no more efficient to make 1000 of these than it is to make one. For the non-business minded folks like me: making 1000 requires no less than 1000 times the effort and resources it takes to make 1. As far as making a profit goes, that's not good. So I'm still thinking...

In that case, surely you should market the secret, not the props. And leave the manufacture to the purchaser.
That's assuming that most people would be able to manufacture it. I'd be interested in buying it, with or without the hardware. Dave
