Why have them come up on stage - sit down - stand up - say nothing and go back to their seats?
I like to hear from anyone that has actually performed this. Rather than just read it from the page and not thought it through!!? Sirus

What are people's opinions on the blindfold sequence?

Sorry Sirus - judging by the tone of your comments you don't value my opinion and living in Prague, you obviously know what I do and don't perform in Leicestershire.
My PR / hype machine must be good if you have knowlege of my routines out there.

IMO luke's stuff are mainly for stage or a big audience. for close up, I think its betta to maybe stick with Kenton Knepper

I'll add to the mix: Luke's Touching On Hoy is brilliant! It could have sold as a seperate item and the price would have still been too low. Wonderful thinking! It's one of those things that will have many slapping their heads and saying, "Now why the #@!%$ didn't I think of that!!!??" And I'm sure a few will claim they already did.
I also enjoyed his Dangerous Opener because it gave me a few ideas for an opening sequence. What this young man will contribute to the mentalism world in the years to come should be quite amazing. Greg

Is "touching on hoy" quite similar to "bold and beautifull prophecy" by Ted karmilovich?

I have to add here that I really love Karmilovich's Bold and Beautiful Prophecy.

I had the opportunity to speak with Luke where he said he had five more books already written, but as yet unreleased to the mentalist world. Interestingly, if you look in Coral Fang, these are the ones that seem to be listed under the first page -- unless I'm mistaking these with limited edition releases like 'The Big Three' that I haven't got to hear of. As Luke seems to be, wisely, carving out a very different route with his act, I wonder if these five will be his last in this area. Nick. |

Nick, different route? I we talking more 'side show' type performance here?

Ted's bold and beautiful prophecy is listed as a credit to the Touching on Hoy routine but is different. Luke's routine adds a "touch" of mischief.

As far as I know, and I know Luke to talk to, he is not going down the side show route that everyone seems to be saying he is. He has added a few side show things into his show at certain times, for example the glass walk presented as mind over matter, however, if you see Luke work a theatre it will still very much be a mentalism show.
The comment from the happy side show in the coral fang is down to the fact that Luke and The Space Cowboy - the sword swallowing member of the said group - are very good friends. I know Luke admires him greatly and Space Cowboy admires Luke in equal measure. I remember seeing them both in International Magic some time back when The Space Cowboy was in the UK after they had just finished performing their respective shows at the Edinburgh Festival. The Space Cowboy also acted as Luke’s support act in a few London Shows while he was in the UK. Luke credits Ted K as an inspiration for Touching On Hoy. In my opinon it takes this idea to a new level as clearly others agree, in fact Ted K himself said about it; 'clever and interesting ideas' All the best. |

I don't know about any speculation but I refer to his own quote from talkmagic.co.uk (at http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic3948.php):
" I have a new show that I am performing that I predict will be generally disliked by the majoirty of mentalists/magicians that see it. It features several side show effects such as walking on broken glass and eating glass, it also features some stories of my tattooing background and is performed with the tattoos on view....its a fairly big departure for the most mentalists." I hope it really is a big departure from the norm - all the better for it. Nick. |

I just spoke to Luke and he said:
"Yeah I have added the tattoos into the show, along with some interesting mentalism based effects and the glass walk. I cut the eating glass for several reasons. However it is still very much a mentalism show. I am very much a mentalist. Nice to see it caught the attention of some people thou. Some of the tattoo related material was performed at The Café Royal Show that I know a few members of the magiccafe came to, The Space Cow Boy also performed as a warm up spot at that show too" |

Cool, I rather liked seeing a flash of 'ink' when Luke rolled up his sleve for the spec to feel (or should that be, NOT feel) his pulse. You could feel a sudden wave go through the audience, hard to describe really.

I only ask the question as reading the effect on paper it seems to not make sense. It is all visual, no verbal which in my eyes is not entertaining for the volunteers. Sirus

Sorry if you misunderstand me but my response was to your claiming that I hadn't performed the routine.
Maybe there's a fault getting over the language barrier here, perhaps. I have done Touching On Hoy. It's amazing and maybe you've got to look at it again. Just because a routine in a booklet stops at the end of the page doesn't mean your thinking has to. Why not link the routine into something else? You've got three specs on stage, why not use them in Bank Night - giving them a chance to win some money in return for them being such good sports?

Hi,
I saw Luke lecture this item. He has plenty of verbal with the onstage spectators - I feel if you need to be told what to say to your spectators when they are onstage then maybe you need to rethink what you are doing. I get the impression Luke was just explaining the method - not his personal presentation. It is up to you to add the verbal onstage. I am sure you can add your own presentation as Luke has to this effect. In fact when Luke performs this in his show I know he makes use of a Newton’s Cradle in a rather cool way as well as wrapping it up in a neat presentational hook. Cheers, Tel |
