PDF is logical since it is rather tamper proof once posted. Does anyone know, short of buying an expensive adobe program how to save as a pdf file?
As to the rest of it, I can get started whenever. So I will need volunteers (lets make it first posted firt served) 1. Volunteer to accept alll the pictures and burn a cd to mail to me 2. Volunteer to write 1 or two pages on the history of escapes (probably it should be posted here so all can read it and give the OK. 3. Volunteer to write a blurb about Harry Houdini (again posted here for approval) 4. Volunteer to write a piece on how this all got started (clyde for sure) I'd still like some opinions and feed back regarding a cut off date when they should get e-mailed out. Keep in mind the size of the thing. Figure the size of a stardard program with each page coming out to five and a half inches wide and 8 inches tall folded book style from a standard sheet of paper. Next it has to be folded and stapled. A good print shop can do a job like that overnight, but how many do you need? All this has to be facotred in. Over 50 escape artists, plus the other pages makes a large book. Here is my next thought. Rather than moving the order around to take one out and put in the front for that area. Everyone gets a small blub in alpha or gographical order, with the one big page per area as well. If that was hard to follow, in the Pensylvania areas, Pastor Clyde is upfront with his bio. He still has a small entry in the middle of the list. The bio gives him a full page with what ever he wants, The smaller entry simply lists picture, name, location escape, (website) etc. This allows for 6 or maybe 8 on a page and makes the book much smaller. Feed Back welcome Cliff

Cliff-
That sounds like a great plan! I will definitely volunteer to accept the photos and burn to CD and to write the blurb about Houdini. Also, to save to PDF, I can only answer for Mac, not for Windows. For Mac, you just go to File, hit Print, and then instead of hitting the Print button, you hit the Save as PDF button. Easy as pie! You have to love Macs! Allan |

How about having the deadline for everything sometime in September. That way we'll still have over a month to do the printing and whatnot and it allows for quite a few EA's to join up by then.
If everyone thinks that it should be a little later then that's fine with me but I really don't think that it should be any earlier than that in order to maximize membership. As far as the actual setup of this thing goes I'm fine with whatever really. Cliff, since it's your idea and you're designing it I feel that going with your vision for this is a good idea. Cheers, -Matt (TK) |

Cliff,
If you are doing the layout, why can't we each email the photos to you, individually, as Jpegs, along with our brief bios? Steve

I guess you can Steve,
I am just not positive how verizon.net will handle an influx of 2 mg downloads. Send me yours if you like and we can try it and see. Cliffg37@verizon.net

Actually Steve,
I'd love you to try it with any old photo, I won't use it, just make it big like a high quality digital photo and we'll see if I get it. Let that go for all the rest of you, we'll see if verizon crashes me down and then we'll know. I will simply delete any picture you send that you don't want used.

Brilliant idea's guys. I love em. Although, for me to create the Booklet will be quite expensive. Would it not maybe be a bit more cost effective to create a Digimag. A CD that you can hand out, that is like a magazine on the computer. People can then read and keep everything on the CD. Most people here throw a magazine away but keep CD's. So would anyone mind if I did it that way instead of in a booklet form?

Wolfie,
A CD is great. If we pass this out to the press, they have it all in digital form and don't have to type anything or scan photos. Yours, Paul |

I can't claim any experience I'm making "digimags" Are they the same as a printed magazine just in pdf format on a disk?
Anyway if I send out the stuff in PDF, each of us can do what feels right. BTW: I found a program that will let me make the pdf file, so that hurddle has been jumpped.

You can Have it like that. Or you cam make a a CD thaf people auto initiates in the system with Music playing and graphics coming up and allowing the user to click on what they wish to read about. Kind of like a suped up Web Site in othewr words. You can also movie clips, Voice Clippings and so forth on a cd too which you don't have on a magazine.
I know some guys who can help out with this kind of stuff. Regards Wolflock

I can definitely design the CD like Wolfie is talking about. When someone put the CD into their drive, it would auto initiate and come up with a menu linking to the various items on the disk. We could have a "link" to each EA and when that was clicked on, it would take you to the EA's bio, pictures and such. If we used DVD's instead of CD's, we could even have a small clip of a past escape if the EA wanted to include that on his bio page. I'm definitely up for putting that together if everyone wants to go that route...

OK guys,
I just e-mailed myself a large file (11 mb) and it would not go through. So I tried Pastor clyde's wear video at over 2 mb and it went fine. You can send me anything you want for the brochure and I should get it. If it bounces back, it means my box is full. Try again the next day. This takes out one extra step. Cliff

Steve,
I got your picture just fine, that is easy, but the file you sent was just 55kb. Is this the level of quality you would want? I guess in black and white it is OK, in color I think it would print like it was low resolution. Just something to think about. P.S. Is that "the" photo, or should I delete it?

Delete. It's not 'THE' photo.
What I find interesting is that it was high resolution in photoshop. Maybe I've been futsing with the original too much. Steve

Hey Steve, I wonder if the e-mail program automatically lowers the resolution to "web quality" before sending a photo attachment. Before I delete it, I think I will open in in Photoshop and raise the resolution to see what happens. I probably won't get to it for a few days though. But I will let you know haow it comes out.
