I've been asked to do the Christmas Day sermon (The parameters are it is to be 15 minutes which is evangelistic Christmas related and not sermon-like). So I would like to perform gospel magic related to Christmas. Only I am having a hard time thinking up a routine!
The service is a family service so the routine should be pitched so as to be understood by all ages. I am not going to learn any new tricks between now and then (there is not enough time to practise to a good standard). I am looking for any Christmas patter that can go alongside any of the following: 20th Century Silks Change Bag Sliding Die Box Cut and restored Rope Professors Nightmare Pineapple Surprise (Bible) Colouring Book Any help will be appreciated! |

MacBeth:
Sliding Die Box: Patter about Herod seeking the new born King here, there, and the other side too, but the Wise Men had tipped off Mary and Joseph so Herod never found the Child, Who was safe....right over here. You're on your own explaining the spots on the die! Leland |

What about a metamorphosis ? Somewhat similar to what the Pendragons do, but you cuold dress up like Santa Claus and tie Jesus up and put him into a metal box, raise a curtain, and you 2 could 'miraculously' change places. Symbolizing how Christmas is about Jesus and not Santa Claus.

Rather than focusing on a "Christmas" theme, why not just do effects that can illustrate things like what we have now, Assurance of Heaven, etc., since Christ came. The tie back to Christmas is easy.
I did an outreach dinner show last Friday and one of the effects I did was a silk routine (ala Duane Laflin - but not near as good as his ) I had never performed the silks publicly before, (Although I had practiced a lot) and was praying about a routine, And I had considering doing another effect I had brought instead of the silk routine, but I had forgotten the silks - (sort of funny it was a silk cabinet routine, but somehow I forgot those silks, but brought all of the others...) - for that other effect, so I had no choice but to do the silk rouitne. And I was half-way through it before I even realized where it was going. I started with a single white silk, and I talked about Heaven as I passed the white silk through my left hand, and then my right and put it back into my left hand, and I talked about how since Christ took my Sin, I could stand like this white silk, Holy and Blameless before the creator. And then I talked about God's favorite colors, greeens like leaves and grass, and blue like sky and water, and... well He has created so many beautiful colors for us to enjoy (Stay with me... it ties back later..) and I started pulling out of the white scarf a beautiful bright blue silk, and next a yellow, then a red, and so on as I pulled out 10 different silks and laid each aside in a pile on my table. And they are bright and beautiful silks, and each new one got an "Oooh" or "Ahhh" from the spectators. And then I talked again, about how beautiful God has made the colors, and many things here on this earth. But as beautiful as they appear, they are still tainted by sin and imperfect. And I reach over and pick up the silks again, move back to center stage and start to drop them to the floor one by one, saying " think how much more beautiful this would be without sin, and when they are all dropped, I say, but if these appear so beautiful to us, can you imagine what it will be like in heaven? And I then release the Silk fountain and the large flowing waves of vibrant silk cascading down on the fountain actually make the previous silks seem dull in comparison. (For the silks from the white handekerchief, I use 10" silks from a Hank Ball, and the fountains is a 16" Laflin Magic Fountain so you can imagine the impact of the fountain after the samller silks..) I then reminded the audience that our only hope for Heaven, is in Christ, who left that wonderously beautiful place to come to our sin tainted imperfect earth, and to die under the weight of all our sins, so that we can some day be with Him eternally in that wonderous place. That is what Christmas means. Yes, by all means, celebrate His coming. But don't forget why He came, and what He did for you, and for me. I hope that I may have just provided a bit of a model as to how to take almost any illustration and make it relate to Christmas. It all start with Him, but it goes on, and on, and on, with Him! God Bless, And MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone. BroDavid
